Former US transgender centre case manager speaks up

From Bari Weiss' The Free Press:

I Thought I Was Saving Trans Kids. Now I’m Blowing the Whistle.

It's a rather gruelling piece, going into more graphic detail than we've seen from previous whistleblowers, such as from the Tavistock. But then, as Helen Joyce has noted - the Tavistock is incredibly cautious compared to the US clinics.

One such excerpt:

How little patients understood what they were getting into was illustrated by a call we received at the center in 2020 from a 17-year-old biological female patient who was on testosterone. She said she was bleeding from the vagina. In less than an hour she had soaked through an extra heavy pad, her jeans, and a towel she had wrapped around her waist. The nurse at the center told her to go to the emergency room right away.

We found out later this girl had had intercourse, and because testosterone thins the vaginal tissues, her vaginal canal had ripped open. She had to be sedated and given surgery to repair the damage. She wasn’t the only vaginal laceration case we heard about.

Other girls were disturbed by the effects of testosterone on their clitoris, which enlarges and grows into what looks like a microphallus, or a tiny penis. I counseled one patient whose enlarged clitoris now extended below her vulva, and it chafed and rubbed painfully in her jeans. I advised her to get the kind of compression undergarments worn by biological men who dress to pass as female. At the end of the call I thought to myself, “Wow, we hurt this kid.”

There are rare conditions in which babies are born with atypical genitalia—cases that call for sophisticated care and compassion. But clinics like the one where I worked are creating a whole cohort of kids with atypical genitals—and most of these teens haven’t even had sex yet. They had no idea who they were going to be as adults. Yet all it took for them to permanently transform themselves was one or two short conversations with a therapist.

Well done to Jamie for speaking out.

Heartbreaking

On another thread there was talks about optics. This whistleblower hits a lot of good optics to try to break through the left's blindspot on gender woo. Reed is a self-described 'left of Bernie' queer woman married to a transman. She's, frankly, exactly the kind of whistleblower the Democrats need to hear from right now.

She is incredibly brave - she stands to lose a lot for speaking out like this.

What a fucking letdown the entire system is to young people right now, especially young autistic people.

The US have such a long way to go and they've gone even further than the UK has. It's incredibly annoying that people have to state her political beliefs so that they will even start to read it. I really want John Oliver to read this and to eat his words as he has promoted early gender confirmation.
These poor poor children, ruined bodies forever, not able to function normally, ever have pleasurable sex or have children of their own.

Horrific read, but we WSOH (Wrong Side of History) types have been warning about this stuff for ages. Meanwhile, as always, the RSOHers will mostly either discredit or ignore.

MenopausalMe · 10/02/2023 09:32

Very brave of her to speak out.

Melroses · 10/02/2023 14:55

That was a disturbing read, but I am left wondering if she still believes what this clinic was doing was right, but that they weren't doing it correctly. That there is somehow some way of sorting out children who require body modification from others who may wish it which the clinic wasn't doing.

Statement from the university. I'm a little surprised as I was expecting them to go full on attack dog mode against the whistleblower. Maybe they still will after their lawyers have done some overtime this weekend.

jlpartnerrs · 10/02/2023 15:39

Painful, very painful.

You've identified what I felt. From my reading of it she seemed to think it was fine — to take hormones that may shorten life and and have terrible effects on the brain and the bones — as long as people understand the consequences. But even pretty astute adults are really bad at understanding risk and consequences, particularly if those consequences may take years to appear. I was disappointed that her experience didn't seem to have encouraged her to think any more deeply about gender ideology.

I have a friend who, due to health problems, went through the menopause in her mid-twenties and who is now in her late forties and facing serious age-related health issues usually seen in women a good thirty years older than her. It's made me even more mad that girls understandably struggling to fit into a sexist, misogynistic and homophobic culture are being offered extreme medical intervention as a solution. These girls arej't going to feel very strong and manly when they hit middle-age with osteoporosis, heart problems and dementia.

MilkandKids · 10/02/2023 17:08

This is utterly tragic. Mass medical experimentation on children. The girl who said she wanted her breasts back, heartbreaking.

Shitehound · 10/02/2023 18:06

Utterly horrifying read. Incredibly brave of her to speak out.

ghostofadog · 10/02/2023 18:08

Very brave of her to speak out, that can't have been an easy decision for someone clearly very much in that world. Horrifying what is being done to these young people.

PonyPatter44 · 10/02/2023 18:19

Jesus, those poor kids. My daughter wanted to get her nose pierced when she was 15, and the piercing studio sent her away. But if she affirmed that she was trans, she could have had a double mastectomy and massive hormone treatment.

At least a piercing hole would have just closed up.

Citrussy · 10/02/2023 19:36

@PonyPatter44 yes!!

TitsInAbsentia · 10/02/2023 22:17

Have just read this, hard read but we need more of this, it's the only hope it might start to sink in...

OneMorePlant · 10/02/2023 23:41

I don't get the praise this woman is getting. Brave? Well Done?

She did this to kids for YEARS and it took more years for her to have the guts to come out. She did not know what she was doing she just went along with everything.

Seriously fuck her and everyone like her.

Every sheep who went along with this is part of the reason this all happened. Only now will these fuckers start coming out because after 100's of people lost their jobs and fought to bring this in the media the tide is finally turning. And she knows it. She is saving her ass and trying to soothe her guilty conscience.

Fuck her.
