"Vulva owners" - Mumsnet HQ-endorsed company thinks that's all we are.

How do you feel about this?

Mumsnet HQ have teamed up with a vibrator company who, quite proudly, declared us "vulva owners". I'm just SO glad that's all I am, and not that dirty word "woman". I'm just a "vulva-owner".

I wonder if that's how Mumsnet HQ sees us too? (the company happily declare it in the comments under the "I feel like this could also work for non-moms" comment.

Though being serious, this is something that frustrates me. I see a lot of comments online about GC people being "obsessed" with genitals, yet then phrases like "vulva owners" and "cervix havers" are banded around by the same people, reducing half the population to a body part/genitals.

Right?

Fuck actual women, right?

I think that's what some of them men hope to do...one day...maybe...probably not!

Cherry60 · 04/02/2023 11:41

Horrible. They owe every woman on here a massive apology.

Maybe they meant Volvo owners.

Well they are a bunch of wankers😉

Horrible. They owe every woman on here a massive apology.

Absolutely.

And then they can do a separate, massive apology to every woman on here who has had a hysterectomy and/or surgical removal of their ovaries or cervix. To reduce gynaecological surgery to a mash-up of words in the biologically inept marketing of a vibrator is incredibly stupid and offensive.

Read the thread on AIBU, it is hysterical. I have asked for it to go in classics

There is a thread or two about this in Site Stuff and MNHQ have commented and apologised about this. It is disgusting and, considering how many women work at MNHQ I'm surprised that this wasn't picked up at the concept stage. Maybe it was, maybe the likes of the mods have zero power, who knows?

In some ways I'm wondering whether - since women do seem have lost the fight with this nonsense gendering and vulva-owner crap - it will just implode at some point and every moron who made this happen will wake up and realise the damage caused? Of course, being men, they'll just whitewash it out never to be spoken of again.

I posted this week about an NHS questionnaire indicating that women/transwomen are one group - and men/transmen are another. Medically impossible and absolutely hateful. I left feedback for the NHS accordingly. Point being that this is such a widespread 'emperor's new clothes' shtick that it's become almost the norm. Frightening.

Whilst I HATE the fact that MN has endorsed a company trying to peddle to vulva-owners, I can't forget that this is about the only platform that women are allowed to have a voice to complain about it and that I do applaud.

I don’t know. It does seem a bit silly. I find that I orgasm much easier as a mother now strangely. Did anyone else’s sex life improve after giving birth? After all the horror stories about how I’d have a terrible unwanted loose vagina and I would pee myself when I cough I was quite terrified that I would never be the same again. But it turns out none of that was a problem!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 04/02/2023 13:22

Yes, because that's exactly what this thread was about. Creepy post. Hmm

I'm a mum. I love sex.

Things that put me right off sex (and buying your product) :

Being told that I am a fucking taboo

People who don't know what a clitoris is

Being reduced to my body parts

Dealing with a person or company who uses language to signify allegiance to my opressor. In this case, this misogynistic, homophobic, individualistic new religion called gender ideology.

Volvos. The old ones are cool but the new ones are stupidly big and I can't see past them on my bike

My ex's friend had been dating a man who'd had, let's say, overlapping affections. She was called by his ex-girlfriend who tried to warn her off, insisting indignantly "He gave me Chlamydia!"

"So what?" replied FriendOfEx, "He bought me a Volvo"

True story.

Hmmmmm...KinkyMom eh...?

Do you have a problem with mothers enjoying sex? Or are we only allowed to enjoy it until the first born comes around? 😂

NicolaSturgeonsSOGIbottom · 04/02/2023 16:36

I’m intrigued by how taboos relating to sex and motherhood can be addressed by breaking women down into a number of disembodied body parts?

Has anyone seen their working out?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 04/02/2023 13:22

Yes, because that's exactly what this thread was about. Creepy post. Hmm

Not sure who you’re replying to but your comment fell directly under mine. I found it perfectly relevant because I was replying to the fact that there were several posts bringing up the fact that they felt it was silly that there was a sex to targeted directly to mothers as if implying that we needed them more or that sex was not as good. Perhaps that was my fault for not directly replying but I just thought all these intelligent sexually confident women would read the room. But it seems many are very uncomfortable with the idea of a woman who enjoys sex also happens to enjoy motherhood and her marriage. Excuse me. I will remember my place as a slutty good for nothing that only brings in the sex forum in the future. 😏

The confusion with Volvo is very funny. I got my vulva (Volvo) second-hand, and it had been used as a vehicle for multiple passengers, but it was roomy and all the shrubs and shovels and so on fitted nicely..
