This is SUCH a good paper, one really feels for the poor woman concerned, and all the (likely many) women to come who will suffer a similar experience.
It is wide ranging in the level of information and explanation as well as a truly moving account of this personal experience and its significance in the wider context of current gender ideology and treatment of dysphoria.

Can't deny enjoying the scorn poured on certain (tactfully unnamed) so called doctors such as "if they want breasts later they can just go get them" Johanna Olson-Kennedy.

May you and the impossible to spell Irish Gallagher woman face many, many legal cases to come.

Her name is Sidhbh Gallagher. I don't agree with what she is doing or how she conducts her business but I think terming her 'the impossible to spell Irish Gallagher woman' is really culturally insensitive.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/02/2023 18:37

To be fair, it is a very eccentric spelling of Sadhbh.

Apologies to Irish women with beautiful names I love but I was on my phone with poor signal and feel no shame for not bothering to look up the name of a woman who preys on teenagers on Tiktok, and celebrates the mutilation of young girls with her obscene "Yeet the teets" trivialisation of double mastectomy.

Oh if only, it could be about a year ago I read here about how LLL were promoting the use of Domperidone in men so they could 'chestfeed' newborns with whatever fluid was expelled from their male nipples.
Not that it was studied under peer review and not that there isn't more to it than that...

www.thestranger.com/queer-issue-2017/2017/06/21/25225867/my-first-time-breastfeeding-my-daughter

Sorry OP, a diversion, but I was reminded of my anger at LLL and the dereliction of duty to breastfeeding mothers they committed.

I shall read this case study but I know it will be hard going.

Important to note that Karleen Gribble is the lead author on this, it’s important to name her. She’s been excellent on this. Her paper from last year on the importance of sexed-based language was one of the most read paper of 2022:

FannyCann · 03/02/2023 21:39

Thanks @NotBadConsidering good point!

It's just such a big deal having a respected British obstetrician to quote - it means I can buckle up and post the link on the hospital intranet and feel assured that if anyone wants to object I can stand my ground and argue the case.

I have previously posted the sex based language link with no comment or come back.

That is an incredibly sad read but also very powerful. I thank 'Elizabeth' for her honesty and courage.

I hope these medical professionals have huge insurance policies. What a disgusting way to conduct a surgical practice. I have a ftm young adult and these people pray on mh issues and have little or no ethical boundaries. Do no harm? My arse.

The aforementioned Sidhbh Gallagher has no insurance at all, and thus can’t be sued for anything. Absolute

It isn't really. Irish phonetics aren't pronounced the same as English?

I must admit, I find the parvenu use and pronunciation of Caitlin (Kate Lynn) in the Anglosphere really annoying. It is an Irish name and is pronounced like Kotch Leen. It would be the same as pronouncing Pierre as 'Pie-e-re'.

But that is aside from the awful damage that is being done to young people. I think it is criminal and hope it will be addressed in time. No, 'only following the zeitgeist and legally being allowed to do the damage'.

Cailleach1 · 04/02/2023 13:30

It is just say it, it works.

Here is a lovely performance by Liam O Maonlai of 'Sadhbh Ni Bhruinneallaigh' from the Highland Sessions. The name itself is lovely.

None of these butchers vandals should be allowed to get away with this. The practitioners, the hospitals, the state legislators who allowed all this to happen.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 04/02/2023 14:15

Irish phonetics aren't pronounced the same as English of course they're not, and if she'd Anglicised the spelling as Sive no one could object (if only for fear of the avenging ghost of John B Keane). But to change Sadhbh to Sidhbh makes no sense. Agree with you about Kate Lynn btw.

It's the least of my problems with her though - it astonishes and dismays me that she is still able to perform surgery.

EdithStourton · 04/02/2023 15:16

I'm very pleased to see papers about these issues finally coming out. I know of someone who was unable to find funding for related research (or maybe warned off it, can't recall which) some years ago now. At the height of the whole 'no debate' frenzy.

StephanieSuperpowers · 04/02/2023 15:27

I find her shamelessness upsetting. Even if you believe that this surgery is appropriate and useful, I think you should still approach it with seriousness. Advertising on tik tok and not having insurance trivilalises it disgracefully.

tiktok · 04/02/2023 17:08

It’s a very good study - detailed and sensitive. The breastfeeding aspect is so rarely considered when this surgery is discussed 😕

LaughingPriest · 04/02/2023 21:02

He persistently referred to Elizabeth as ‘a man’ which Elizabeth found confusing and frightening. She tried to explain that she was not transgender and was not male. She wondered whether the obstetrician thought she was a mentally ill trans woman who mistakenly believed she was pregnant and was just being humoured. Alternatively, she considered whether the doctor was incompetent, persuaded by ideology that it was possible for a male to become pregnant. Either possibility made Elizabeth fear she would receive poor maternity care.

I mean, bloody hell. "The doctor is agreeing with impossible things so as not to offend a trans person" is, sadly, a perfectly feasible scenario here. No wonder she felt gaslit and confused about what to trust.

FannyCann · 04/02/2023 23:20

I liked these recommendations:

Assumptions should not be made about the gender identity of any individual based on their appearance, or indeed whether individuals have a gender identity.
• Continuity of midwifery care should be provided as standard and personal preferences regarding how individuals are referred to should be adhered to. Alongside sex (75), hospital and practice intake forms should collect data on gender identity, including an option of “I do not have a gender identity” or “not applicable.”

OP posts:
FannyCann · 04/02/2023 23:28

It is infuriating when presented with a box to tick for gender (instead of sex) and the best you can do is tick "other" and hopefully have a free text chance to state adult human female or possibly No gender.

I would love an option to tick "I do not have a gender identity".

It’s so sad when she describes how the baby was looking for her breasts straight after birth 😞

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 05/02/2023 09:46

Heartbreaking. This belief system is permitting some people to do very evil things to the vulnerable.
