Douglas Ross posing questions to Nicola Sturgeon, who won't answer whether Adam Graham is a man or a woman. DR not letting her off the hook. NS seems to want to create a separate gender category called "rapist".

Marvellous avoidance of pronouns there.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 02/02/2023 16:52

I think Douglass Ross missed a trick when he continued to push "is Adams a man or a woman". The First Minister raised the issues of the GRR. It would have been an opportunity to ask if it would have made any difference to Adam's placement and risk assessment process if Adams had been awarded a GRC before being tried. As he could easily have been if the GRR had been passed a couple of years ago.

Oh please, please, please let this be what takes Sturgeon down.

TheSingingBean · 02/02/2023 18:26

I used to admire NS. Now I can barely contain my fury at her.

thedankness · 02/02/2023 19:50

Well done Douglas Ross.

I'm really hoping focusing on the rapists is a tactic to bring down the whole ideology though. People need to connect ALL the dots. The aggrandized sympathy for "transpeople" is still making my eye twitch - a group of people that have no shared characteristic other than claiming to be what they are not.

If Adam Graham isn't trans on account of our judgement then neither is anyone else. There's no such thing as "trans" as a homogenous identity.

JacquelinePot · 02/02/2023 20:07

Sturgeon is absolutely beneath contempt. It is a daily source of horror and disgust to me that she can stand up in her nation's parliament and say such dreadful nonsense simply in order to cling on to power.

She can fuck all the way off with her "listen to these women's organisations [which have been captured and will only get gov funding if they accept men]".

And as for "these [fucking ridiculous, dangerous, woman-hating] laws which put men in women's prisons have been in place for years" is not the own she thinks it is.

"What is relevant is that the individual is a rapist. That is how the individual should be described and it is that which should be the main consideration in deciding how the individual is dealt with.*
Makes perfect sense. "The individual" is sent to a "rapist prison" then, right?

"The individual" has been stripped of all pronouns, only to be referred to as "a rapist" or "the individual". Seems, oh, I don't know, rather dehumanising to me. And you know, like that thing people get accused of being called transphobic for doing, avoiding using the right pronouns.

*That is why, of course, the individual is in a male prison, not in the female prison. So these are the issues that matter.”

Why on earth is "the individual" in a male prison, if "the individual" hasn't been defined as male? Surely that's against some kind of human rights.

Ross and Sturgeon are apparently agreed on something though. They both believe there are True Trans. In Sturgeon's case, I'd like her to be pushed in how we can be expected to know whose faking their trans self-identity, in order to prevent them getting access to women. I'd also like her questioned about whether it's transphobic to make such an assumption. This "individual" had apparently started taking hormones. If that's true, at which point is someone actually in the medical pathway not a real trans person.

I sense a petard getting closer to Sturgeon by the minute.

aweegc · 02/02/2023 20:24

*expected to know who's faking...

That was the most eye wateringly stupid thing I have ever witnessed.

Ross should have asked her what happens when the violent rapist is eventually released from jail. Is he then allowed into women’s changing rooms on the basis of self ID? And what about all the rapists not yet caught or convicted - can they self ID too?
Because if not, Sturgeon’s entire stupid policy is meaningless. Which we knew anyway.

It looks like some form of disability to me.

Back to Nicola - that was the most pathetic argument I have seen in Parliament.
'I don't have enough information' - she had days to find information.
I'll help you out Nic, Adam Graham is a man.

Just saw this.

She is Christine Grahame
'She has stated previously she has a harmless neurological tremor, which is hereditary and can cause visible shaking'

Circumferences · 02/02/2023 22:46

Oh that was so tedious
"The most important thing is to not misrepresent a tiny vulnerable minority" what- men?
Men aren't vulnerable, nor are they a minority.
Give over.

xeraco · 03/02/2023 04:29

Many apologies re Christine Grahame and my thoughtless comment. I should have done a bit of research.Blush

highame · 03/02/2023 07:26

And what about all the rapists not yet caught or convicted - can they self ID too? He covered it Babdoc, I was impressed, he also covered women having to address their rapist as 'she'

Babdoc · 03/02/2023 08:56

Ah, glad to hear it, highame. I should have listened to the whole thing, but I cannot bear Sturgeon’s whiny voice and annoying manner for that long!
