As above, I've had the virtue-signalling pronouns email at work. It's optional to put your preferred pronouns (which is the option I will be taking) but its the sort of environment that it will be noticed, and possibly commented on.

There was a thread a while back I can't seem to find that had short, non-inflamatory replies for why I won't be adding my he/she/zom/zur/zee's after my name- can anyone point me in the right direction of it? Or give me some safe-for-work replies to disengage from the conversation. I've only been there a few months and I don't really have the energy to be fighting battles with people who won't be listening anyway.

In the end with most workplaces you need to live your personal politics and beliefs at the door.

If the workplace is imposing theirs on you, why should you?

@DeadOrchid

Those are a crime against any kind of aesthetic standard - & a nightmare for VI people & those with some neuro issues.

Patients are not there to validate HCPs’ life choices FFS. If I’m admitted with my brain misbehaving I quite literally will not have the capacity to politely join in with a game of Pretend. Not when I’m putting together phrases by jumbling together languages & pointing at stuff; & The Brain-Woggle basically removes all filters & constraint of social niceties. It’s a bit (complete to frustration over lack vocabulary) like being a toddler really I suppose: unflinching honesty; & random things seem fascinating &/or important. So if someone were to try to tell me I was expected to refer to someone even my addled wits could spot was male as “she” & “her”, I would want to know why. And would then almost certainly refuse to do it because it was asking me to tell a lie; & that [lying] is not a request they’d make twice 😶
