Elite sports people speaking up!

There seems to be an increasing number of sports people speaking up about the problem of males completing in women's sports which is positive. Thought it might be useful to have a thread of those who are risking sticking their heads above the parapet. Obviously the likes of Sharon Davies, Mara Yamauchi and Martina Navratilova have been bravely doing this for sometime but now we appear to have a few current athletes as well who are prepared to risk the mob to ensure women have fair competition. Is it too much to hope for that there will be a snowball effect?

A group of 16 American women have launched a landmark legal case against the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) over the participation of transgender athletes in their sports, with their lawyer stating that the organisation has “institutionalised cheating and discrimination” against them.

While four of the women have chosen to remain anonymous for fear of possible repercussions, swimmer Riley Gaines is among those to have put their name to the complaint. She tied for fifth place with Thomas in the 200-yard freestyle event in Atlanta in 2022 and has become a voice in the US against the inclusion of transgender women in female sports categories.

In the complaint for damages, it is detailed that “without notice to female swimmers competing in the 2022 NCAA Championships, the NCAA and … one or more other state actors or actors with apparent state authority … changed the designation of the locker rooms to be used by the women swimmers … to ‘unisex’ locker rooms.

“And directed women swimmers and teams that Thomas was entitled to use all designated locker rooms allocated to the women swimmers and teams.
“This change was made so that Thomas, a fully grown adult male with full male genitalia, would use the same locker rooms to be used by more than 300 female student-athletes, depriving the female student-athletes of sex-separated women’s locker room facilities and bathroom and restroom facilities where their right to bodily privacy could be protected, exposing the women to shock, humiliation, and embarrassment in violation of their constitutional right to bodily privacy.”

As we all know, that was a complete travesty. It's interesting that the official was embarrassed to explain that Thomas was being promoted over the women.

Even without the women being forced to share a dressing room with a penis wielder, there are those falsely judged to have come second and third etc, never mind the ones who had their places stolen.

The bit where the man identifying as a woman is in the women's race but the woman identifying as a man was in the men's race.

No, of course that didn't happen, the woman identifying as a man (wearing men's speedos) was also in the women's race. Because that makes perfect sense, that's not inherently contradictory at all.

Great to see a male athlete speaking up for women.

Some more very brave women refusing to play whilst there is a man allowed to compete in their own team.

This time in darts...

Aileen de Graaf and Anca Zijlstra dropped quite a bombshell on Saturday on the Dutch women's darts team by both dropping out of the selection. Both players no longer want to team up with Noa-Lynn van Leuven.

''The moment when you feel ashamed to play for the Dutch Team, because a biological man plays on the women's team, it's time to go. I have tried to accept this but I cannot condone or accept it. I think in sports there should be an equal and fair playing field, handled and accepted as such in good conscience. After all, we have worked so hard to be relevant and competitive in this sport. I also resign as player representative of the NDB. To clarify: The umbrella organizations themselves can decide whether they allow a transwoman to play with the men or a transman to play with the women. I have always found it an honour to play for our country, and will always be open to returning to the national team. I hope with all my heart and for all women's sports that people come to their senses. This decision has not been light and very difficult, 1991 has been the first time I proudly put on the shirt for the Netherlands,'' Zijlstra writes.

"I knew I could play darts. But winning a PDC Challenge tour on my debut is just insane!" Van Leuven continued."

Amazing, in fact one might question if N-V vL would have won their first tournament if that tournament had been in the correct sex category. But clearly there is no advantage for men playing women's sports.

'Insane', just what I was thinking.

SinnerBoy · 25/03/2024 09:36

Well, that's another two brave women, bowing out on principle. Doubtless, they'll be accused of sour grapes and being bigots to them.

My greatest respects to yous, ladies.

It doesn't say how many "transwomen" responded.
How do we know that the 1 in 10 who think that it's fine for men to compete in the female category aren't all men?

Argh the BBC... yes of course people with TQ+ chosen identities should have a place in sport, so should vegans, Sagittarians and Catholics. 🙄 The male ones just shouldn't mug women for their place in sport. It's not difficult.

And I see again someone moaning 'be kind' and seeing this as it would be better for women to sacrifice and surrender than distress a poor little man.

Signalbox · 25/03/2024 12:22

Also how much of that article was given over to Joanna Harper.
Who cares what ** thinks.

The Dutch darts player seemed to be 'taking the mick', by playing in the men's team and also in the women's, within days.
It happens he is good enough to win as a man, so he doesn't even gain anything by "winning" as a woman.
He is showing contempt for women, but also for the organisers, and for the game.

SinnerBoy · 25/03/2024 14:24

However, last year, Loughborough University researcher Joanna Harper - who is a transgender woman herself - told BBC Radio 5 Live it "isn't clear" how much athletic advantage transgender women retain.

Well, that's flat out not correct in any way. I note that the author used quotation marks, is it significant?

Well, isn’t Harper still to publish their study. The one the other male athletes dropped out of and all that was left was Bridges? Making it effectively a case study sponsored by the IOC ?

So maybe Harper is trying to build the suspense.

That is very sobering reading eyeballs.

So, whoever this group is they are never going to listen to female athletes until someone in authority declares that actually, maybe whichever fucking consultant they hired to formulate their incredibly flawed policy was wrong. And that that sport has lost female athletes because of this fuck up.

All based on philosophical belief. Out-fucking-standing.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 25/03/2024 16:17

So it would seem Helleofabore obviously because CH rules, Jon couldn’t see which organisation exactly but he drops a pretty mammoth hint!!

Helleofabore · 25/03/2024 16:21

Yes. I see that now. Well. We know what Harper has been up to, don’t we. And McKinnon too wasn’t it ? Who convinced them that it was cruel to exclude male athletes because of all the lovely people using she/her freely, they obviously see those male people
as female, how cruel to exclude them from the sport they love.

So, yes. I think we know who the fucking consultants were.

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 25/03/2024 16:25

Argggghhh how can people not see that if you let men into women's sport the 'group most at risk of being harmed' is women? And when it comes to contact sports that is actually, real bodily harm not hurt feelings.
