I feel like the world is a saner place as of today

All the developments re transwomen in female prisons have lightened my soul. It feels as if there is a flood of voices that up until now were silent. Too afraid of backlash and the accusations of hatefulness to speak up.
I can't stop reading the news and the threads on here, just so relieved that the brakes are being applied. My friends child has started down this path. Very young and very impressionable but looking for all the interventions possible before the onset of puberty. I hope that a new climate of common fucking sense will keep them from regrets and irreversible damage. And to all the brave people on here who were not intimidated into silence. Well done

I agree. Still a long way to go to undo the damage that has been done in the name of this awful ideology, and there are those whose minds will never be changed, but the more sunlight this issue gets the majority of people who do not agree that humans can change sex grows. We are winning.

The battle is nowhere near over yet, but at last we are getting some sunlight, which should bring reinforcements. Hopefully dawn is coming

lolaflores · 29/01/2023 21:13

Yes. How long it will take to reverse the magical thinking in a generation of young people. My own daughter included who would not listen to my view point, just gave Me a withering look and called me a TERF.
Still a subjject we can't discuss calmly and I feel she has been brainwashed at such an impressionable age.
But the recent developments clearly show that the agenda behind so e of the trans movement is not as pure as once advertised bit I doubt even then it will be seen as anything g other than propaganda. We can only hope

I agree slightly. But I'm in Scotland and I've just seen someone female on social media post a clip of Nicola Sturgeon (via MBergdorf) 'expertly' analysing the way that the Tories are just manufacturing a 'Culture War' under the guise of protecting Women's rights. And I just can't understand the superficial level of thought some 'be kind' types are giving this subject. This is someone creative and left-leaning but I can see they have trans and non-binary friends/customers and therefore women who want the most basic of protections can go fuck themselves.

I've blocked and unfollowed for the sake of my mental health as anyone who looks to MB for their political 'discourse' is not someone who's insights I want to see on a daily basis.

TheShellBeach · 29/01/2023 21:26

Well, people are still unfollowing me on Twitter because of my "hate speech" towards transwomen.
I hope there will be an epiphany eventually.

Make sure to read outside of your usual circles. PPs are correct - this glimmer of sense breaking out seems so heartening, but it's in the context of capture at every level, from social chitchat right through to the judiciary, the MoJ, the government.

Miles to go before we sleep, I'm afraid.

It's just the UK, they're still pressing ahead with self id in Germany, Spain and, I think, Finland but possibly Norway or both. But it is good news although not the end of the war.

lolaflores · 29/01/2023 21:54

I looked on Reddit for any threads but didn't find anything and silence on FB too bit to be honest I don't expect anything.
A very strong article by, I think Cstherine Bennett in The Guardian that was saying everything thought, without any fear of potential backlash and it felt so hugenthat a journalist in a Liberal paper would be so forthright. It gives me hope ut as you say, other countries are not slowing their roll.

Sadly I don't have your positivity. For every good news some shit happens soon after.

The world Athletics body, I believe is reviewing its team policy. Won't be good news. Although great news from Scottish rugby.

Our sisters in Ireland, Canada, USA and New Zealand are struggling.

Rape crisis centres still have men attending and in refuge centres.

There are 1,000s of women sexually assaulted annually in mixed sex wards. Male doctors/nurses pretending to be women can legally be allowed to attend women patients who have asked for only women!

I won't be happy until our daughters are safe in their sport of choice and can have single sex spaces.

Sorry for pissing on your parade. :(

Although definitely a step in the right direction especially for Scotland.

A favourite poem, I'm always quoting that line. So apt here.

Aye, it's a lovely one!

Sunlight is certainly flooding in. I've been working with a lady this afternoon, mid 50's,same as me. She brought up the subject of males in women's prisons and said that she was horrified that anyone would consider such a thing.

I filled her in on exactly what has been happening for years, including rape crisis employing a male in a supposedly female role, and that person's comments, also Primark changing rooms ect. I pointed out that it all sounds perfectly insane and conspiracy theoristy, but it's all absolutely true.

She has a wide social circle,so will no doubt talk to her friends about it.🙂

SweetSakura · 30/01/2023 18:51

I agree that at least it feels like there are some chinks in the wall and a bit of sanity is allowed into the conversation finally. But there is definitely a long way to go

WomensLandArmy · 30/01/2023 18:56

I was dismayed recently that in one of the university buildings both the male and female bogs had been relabelled as 'gender neutral'. I had intended to glue over on the quiet with some 'unisex' signs. Today, I noticed someone else has removed the gender neutral ones completely, just leaving the sticky strips behind. I nearly whooped with joy. Have me hope that the tide may be turning.

RhymesWithOrange · 30/01/2023 19:04

Cautiously optimistic but watch out for the backlash, it's going to be a bitch.

Jux · 30/01/2023 19:05

So have girls been going to the loos together for safety? In my day it was to have a gossip and share a lippy.

lolaflores · 30/01/2023 23:00

There will be a reprisal in response to the turn of events recently. I do not doubt that but equally there is a growing awareness

I was surprised by hearing through the grapevine how many women were now feeling safe enough to express their feelings and genuinely not apologising for them. A very goid friend assumed I held the thought TWAW and seemed really taken aback i didn't but we decided to not get into it. The only point i made was that in removing certain barriers to womens spaces, we cannot be 100% sure who we are letting in and she sort of nodded but we moved along from there. It's not my aim to change people's minds I think there are some basics that should be pointed out.
