Misogynists in Labour's Ranks - Observer article

Mollyollydolly · 28/01/2023 20:51

Another good article in tomorrows Observer to add to the Times one.

Good to see so many men being called out. There's quite a few I could add to the list.

And The Times thread

Sorry but the observer article barely named anyone beyond Starmer, lady nugee and LRM or MLR whichever way the little pipsqueak spells it's name.
What about the rest of them? Best thing to do regarding the labour party, afaic, is to work from a point of knowing that Rosie is a terf, a lone terf and not one of the others is worth tuppence ha'penny!
View the rest of them as tra's, regardless of their sex and bear in mind, that any change of mind now, despite months/years of being told by terfs, that situations like we've seen this week, were bound to happen, if they hadn't happened already, would be purely self serving, cynical and brass necked effrontery! imo.

Abhannmor · 28/01/2023 22:55

Great piece. Hope it emboldens some of the 40 odd GC MPs Duffield estimates agree with her.

If only out of self preservation. You can lose an election from 20 points ahead. Labour have done so before.

MorvenOfMalvern · 29/01/2023 00:19

It's named Ben Bradshaw too, and given he shouted "absolute rubbish" at the exact point RD listed the single sex spaces women need , he needs to be named. Because LRM behaved so bay, BB seems to have slipped under the radar a little, but he both defended his own actions, and those of lrm as "calling out transphobia" on Twitter and has since gone on to double down, sharing increasingly misogynist tweets and articles from Pink News FFS.

I think this a great article because it very clearly lays out the parallels between the far left and far right sexists.
There is not much between them except that the labour types would say they support women's rights with no insght into their own nonsense. I think the Andrew Tates would more easily see their behaviour as sexist.

NotTerfNorCis · 29/01/2023 00:51

Really good sign that the Guardian/Observer will publish this kind of feminist article now. The left is becoming more open to GC arguments.

Igmum · 29/01/2023 08:37

Yes and reporting the bullying helps show just what TRAs are like. Please please let's have more GC views in Parliament

ControversialOpening · 29/01/2023 09:06

It could have mentioned Owen Jones as he is a member of the Labour Party.

I wonder why it didn't?

DuncanBiscuits · 29/01/2023 09:11

This is good to see.

Labour are canvassing around me at the moment - does anyone have a handy phrase/question I can use when one of them comes knocking? Because in the moment my mind tends to go blank and I want to be prepared.

Something about ‘how are you planning to protect the rights of women?’ But pithier.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 29/01/2023 10:16

that's a great article. catherine bennet has always been good on this. and as a pp says, showing the parallels between LRM, BB and AC's behaviour and Andrew Tate's will

  1. really piss them off (good)
  2. open a lot of eyes

LRM is claiming that including a photo of him in the article is doxing. Also claims the article says untrue things but offers no examples

Doxing

🤣🤣🤣

fucking loon

RayonSunrise · 29/01/2023 13:00

I was pleased to see this. We need a lot more mainstream coverage around this open resurgence in misogyny.

I rather liked the article

It did make me realise that the worst mysogenists are most likely to see nothing wrong in self id because they assume that no man in his right mind /no real man would demean himself so far as to call themselves a woman

Deary deary me.

Your photo's on the official UK Parliament site, Moyle. members.parliament.uk/member/4615/contact

What with you being a public figure, as an MP.

And the photo in the Observer article shows you in the House of Commons, a location whose details are comprehensively provided on that same UK Parliament website.

Or by "doxxing", do you mean showing you up in the midst of some egregious behaviour? Pretty original use of the verb, if so.

Clymene · 29/01/2023 14:05

LRM is just an embarrassment. He must be a hopeless mp.

Mollyollydolly · 29/01/2023 14:46

He's a gift for us isn't it. Made it my mission to quote tweet him every time he turns off replies.

Oh me too! I'm sure it's making him apoplectic Smile

EwwSprouts · 29/01/2023 15:29

You've got love that he is so offended by it, he retweets rather than just referencing it.

Abhannmor · 29/01/2023 17:12

Kenan Malik has a good article in today's Observer too. Pointing out the primacy of class as opposed to ' diversity ' politics. Not the first time he has had a dig at this empty tokenism either.

Mollyollydolly · 29/01/2023 18:32

I so agree with Kenan Malik. What happened to class analysis. Does my head in.

The quote tweets to LRM encouraging people to complain on his behalf are just hilarious. I've laughed out loud several times this morning.
