Did anyone else listen? Annaliese Dodds was on the panel. Trans issues were given a tiny amount of time at the end and I really couldn't understand what AD was saying, apart from word salad.
The other 2 did the usual trans bingo - be kind, better debate etc.
The Tory was pretty reasonable.

SPOILER ALERT (because it's going to be repeated)

I did. I stopped listening after the man who characterised the issue as being one between trans people and "the right". No mention of women's rights. This does seem to be the BBC's strategy - fit it in to two minutes and cut it short before an all important final question of the "if the panel were an ice cream which flavour would they be?" variety.

On previous occasions they have left this issue to the dying minutes, and then failed to cover it at all in the follow up phone in Any Answers on Saturday. Apparently they didn't cover it on Question Time, even though it was the BBC's headline news bulletin story that day, because there wasn't anyone LGBT on the panel. This is not the rule the show applies to debating any other issue but is a convenient way to enforce 'no debate': so unless 20% of the panel is trans (from 0.1% of the population), discussing the matter and its impact on everyone else is verboten. The fact that it impacts every woman, student and school age child and right now Scotland's government too doesn't matter. And this refusal to discuss it is why we have ended up in this place now, so well done, public service broadcaster.

That was Matthew Parris, JustSpeculation, who, outside of this, seems to be sensible. But no, he thinks that we should stop talking about this. Plus, of course, we're all Right Wing.
The problem with this programme is that the issue, if discussed, is ALWAYS shoehorned into the dying minutes of the programme and all people do is spout their particular mantra. I will be very interested to hear if it comes up on Any Answers, but, having been disappointed on this before, really can't be bothered to listen.

They nearly always cover this at the end of the programme so they run out of time, see also Politics Live.

ExiledElsie · 28/01/2023 13:59

Just listening, incredibly frustrating question. They just all got to say "be kind" "agree to disagree" whilst completely ignoring the actual problems affecting people.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/01/2023 15:24

And, predictably, no mention in Any Answers.

DontAskIDontKnow · 28/01/2023 16:13

Yes, not a mention on any answers, and I know they had callers, as I phoned and gave my details and sat around in case they called me back.

it’s not ‘drop the dead donkey’ anymore. It’s drop anyone wanting to discuss this issue. As always, left till the end of the programme.

I will be writing, yet again, to complain.

I really couldn't understand what AD was saying, apart from word salad.

Situation normal for AD. I don't think I've ever heard her be coherent on this subject.

Oh good, I thought it was just me

So this is the second week AQ has allowed a small amount of time to trans vs. women's rights.

And the second time that AA has so obviousl filtered out any one ringing in about the issue.

Not helped by Anita Anand wasting time trying to get people to talk to each other, who have not interest in doing so, as they rang to have a chance to put over their view point on air.

She used to be quite good, but I suppose some silly TV exec. has said so boring just listening to people, lets liven if up and try and get to people arguing on air.

So much time wasted with her manipulation, let alone the screening out of those phoning in on an issue the BBC has an agenda about.
