I know it's petty and I should probably get over it at some point but I can't take him seriously since his repeated claims during Covid that "exponential growth" is a fad term. I pointed out several times to him in BTL comments that microbiologists have used this term for about 150+ years to describe microbial growth but he always ignores all but fawning comments. Not as clever as he thinks he is.

He did leave Stonewall - which he founded - because of the trans rights take over. He does deserve respect.

@PersonaNonGarter that’s why I found his answer so disappointing. I am not, have never, and never will be ‘the right’. Makes my blood boil to have that lazy assumption made.

I heard that too and thought it was an absolutely rubbish answer, thoughtless, ignorant and selfish-sounding.

I also note that yet again this topic got left until last and rushed through at a rate of knots (with the presenter protesting that they know it's an important topic and they'll talk about it another day...)
The clapping was unconvincing for every answer too, so I think the audience were as frustrated as we are!

All these commentators do is deflect from whatever the issue is, because they are thinking more in gotcha moments or twitter storms. though come to think of it most news reporting isn't much better.

I was slightly encouraged by Annaliese Dodd’s answer. Although she waffled back towards be kind towards the end, she did explicitly state that sex and gender are different, and she did correctly outline the EA provisions. Progress, albeit feels fragile.

I wonder if anyone here who has not yet seen it would like to sign this petition to update the Equality Act to make clear the characteristic ‘sex ‘ is biological sex?
