PT has been doing a terrible disservice to LGB people, hasn't he?

I was thinking about the people for whom trans has a sexual/sexuality component, expressed for example in how they dress or how they post on social media. And how the only trans person I know irl gets on with their job and wears jeans and a sweater like everyone else. And isn't like that at all afaik.

And then I was thinking about Pride, and how over-sexualised it is to my eyes. Whereas the gay people in my life express their sexuality in exactly the same way I do, ie via who they live with/marry, but not as a "statement". And I feel that is surely the norm?

So my question is, was the gay liberation movement : driven by? infiltrated by? attractive to? co-opted by? predatory or boundary-dismantling types all along?

Or was it simply a wider liberal movement that attracted dubious characters, like any social / political movement will?

Only pondering incoherently here, happy to have my thoughts sorted out by someone more clear-thinking.

Fucking hell; why?? I don’t suppose you fancy having a moment and asking him why he thinks having sex with a 9 year old can ever be acceptable?

Cuppasoupmonster · 27/01/2023 12:47

As I see it, there’s still a divide in LGB between male/female behaviour (as with straight people so no surprises I guess!). In that male gay culture is more overtly sexual and celebratory of things like swinging, sex parties etc. Not knocking it at all, consenting adults can do as they wish.

Lesbian culture doesn’t seem overtly sexual. More based around securing fundamental rights to live happy lives without impacting others.

But yes I have seen some fairly anguished posts by gay men despondent that the whole movement is making them look like child molesters and perverts by wanting to ‘liberate children’ and interfere with minors under the guise of ‘helping them to be themselves’.

Here are Jo Bartosch's tweets. It seems she had connectivity issues, so she has just done a video reply...

Whilst on Twitter checking out the clips I saw this.

It feels like one of those caption competition photos

Quite simply mine would be to read verbatim what he said about sex with underage children, and ask why he said it?

Oh well, I'm sure they will need to be prepared for the visit with an uncompromising understanding of what he stands for (assuming they're over 16, of course).

Sorry? Students?

What age range?

If they are primary or secondary, I would be showing the Head teacher the things that he has written and alerting the Head?

Dear god!!! Does the person who arranged for him to come in know his background????

Helleofabore · 27/01/2023 13:00

And please use the letter about him supporting leaving the underage married girl with her adult husband....

Well quite. They're A level students, specifically speaking to the PPE and amnesty societies. I think I'll have a qt word with the organiser.

Helleofabore · 27/01/2023 13:16

And really, let them see his comments about underage marriage and show the video where he advocates that children benefit from watching porn as well as his position on child sexual abuse - his real position. Where he doubles down that it is only abuse if the child views it as abuse.

Because this man is not 'harmless'.

Boiledbeetle · 27/01/2023 13:19

Can these students be asked to do some deep dive research of their own on the past life of this gentleman? Not current LGBT stuff. Phrase it as who was the man before the man we all know now.

Peter Tatchell’s generation was in their mid teens before male homosexuals could legally have sex at all. There was no consent. Then it wasn’t until 1997 that the age of consent was lowered to the same age as for heterosexual sex. For a long time, it was 21.

Yeah, from talking to gay guys of that generation, their age boundaries are often very blurred. Legally, sleeping with a twenty year old boyfriend was exactly the same as sleeping with a fourteen year old.

When there’s a boundary that’s in the wrong place, the predators and dismantlers will move in and take advantage. And often, because people know that the legal boundaries are discriminatory, they won’t realise that the ‘there shouldn’t be any boundaries’ types are grooming them.

Interestingly enough, I have literally just been reading James Morton’s contribution to CB’s Trans Britain and JM says that it was campaigns around The Sex Offenders Bill which led to Pride Scotland becoming ‘trans-inclusive’.

BlueBooh · 27/01/2023 14:11

Sadly supersange how true that is.

Ridiculous that raising a safeguarding issue in a school could negatively affect you. Even more bloody so in education.

I admire your commitment think I'd have given up long ago. Flowers
