Have just listened to Nicola Sturgeon on prime time PM programme. Disingenuous, misleading, gaslighting. No challenge. I am really cross.

I only caught her last sentence, something like “this law does not affect the Equality Act”.

Well Nicola, many people don’t agree with you.

CriticalCondition · 25/01/2023 17:58

I was pleased she was put on the spot on several very specific issues - rushing the Bill through before Christmas, rapists in women's prisons, placards and Rosie Duffield.
I shouldn't be but I was still a bit shocked by how misleading and gaslighty her answers were. At least the questions were asked I suppose. The interviewer clearly had a lot of questions they wanted to put to her so there was no challenge on the answers.

Abccde · 25/01/2023 18:00

I literally have no words.

Apart from thank fuck myself and my daughter do not live in Scotland.

HighWindows1 · 25/01/2023 18:04

Her days are numbered, she might aswell go all in.

Her days are numbered, she might aswell go all in.

There was an air of that about it. She was asked about life after politics and talked about her plans. I wonder if she senses it might be coming sooner rather than later.

CriticalCondition · 25/01/2023 18:11

Ooh, it's made an item on the news now.

Motheranddaughter · 25/01/2023 18:14

The whole situation is totally unbelievable

i really can’t believe how low NS has gone on this

Nothing seems to matter to her apart from Independence

She will literally have blood on her hands

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 25/01/2023 18:20

That woman knows what a woman is socially, politically and, if super injunction rumours are to be believed that is the sensible end of that sentence.

I can't bear how she is betraying us.

We won't forget it.

ICanHideButICantRun · 25/01/2023 18:22

She's really bad for my blood pressure. I want to like her but she's fucking ruthless in terms of what she'll do to stay in power.

Arrrrrrragghhh · 25/01/2023 18:30

It was so easy to see the gaping holes though. Risk assessments? So a trans woman deemed dangerous goes to a male prison, in which case what’s the actual point of the GRC? You are or you aren’t. Presumably a trans man will never end up in a male prison as it will be too risky.
(Interestingly in the notes on the act themselves they suddenly use the word “transsexuals” when it comes to not allowing men into womens spaces. How are they different to trans then?)

nilsmousehammer · 25/01/2023 18:35

If risk assessments fix everything, then risk assess male prisoners for the male estate and no worries. Right?

Because there's no male human right of access to females. Even if you have an insane Scotswoman desperate to show how much she cares about sex offenders by providing them with forced and non consenting women and no care at all about what then happens to them.

I can't see how this advances the case for Independence though. I'm so relieved we aren't independent

PaleBlueMoonlight · 25/01/2023 18:53

I can't seem to work out how to get a lin to the programme, so if anyone else knows how I would be grateful...

She’s a Scottish Thatcher. This lady’s not for turning.

Babdoc · 26/01/2023 09:38

Rudsyfarmer, please don’t even mention Sturgeon in the same breath as Thatcher.
Thatcher was an excellent leader, with a brain and a science degree, who was instrumental in getting international agreement to ban cfc chemicals and fix the hole in the ozone layer, stood up
to Argentina to defend British citizens in the Falklands, took on the unions and turned Britain from a strike hit economic basket case in the 70s to a surging economy in the 80s.
Sturgeon is a failed lawyer and a one trick grievance politician, who has sold out to the Greens and their insane gender ideology in order to cling to power with her minority administration and keep her nose in the trough. She is beneath contempt for her betrayal of women and trashing of Scotland.

They're just talking about this on Woman's Hour now. Ironically I missed the beginning of the segment because I was listening to NS on PM on catchup. So far I've heard an avalanche of stats - numbers rattled off quickly that will be impossible for the average listener to process or make sense of. Anita Rani being wide-eyed and disingenuous.

Just finished. The conclusion seemed to be NOTHING TO SEE HERE (but I'll need to listen again to get a fairer idea.)

I hope Emma Barnett isn't listening. It'll do nothing for her blood pressure.

daringdoris · 26/01/2023 10:55

Just listened to Women's Hour too. I'd almost turned it off as I find Anita Rani far too 'naice'.
Yes, it was loads of statistics, reeled off really quickly, on a really bad line. For the average person who has to do mental gymnastics when they hear transmen/women (which one's that again?) it was pointless.
It was very 'neutral', reporting what has been said by various people including NS.
The reporter did quote Rape Crisis at the very end who have said that transwomen should never be in womens spaces - I'm paraphrasing but I think that's correct.
Let's see if she reads out any of the many texts she will have no doubt received on the subject.

daringdoris · 26/01/2023 10:59

Women's hour is just so dissonant on this subject - they are talking now about how household jobs are shared and how female socialisation plays into that. The girl before who was talking about the Notting Hill Carnival woman who wrote an essay in 1949 about how women are treated as an underclass and until we are treated equally there will be no peace.
Right now it's how it's women who are expected to make the tea at work etc.
Can they not see that it's all linked?

WinterTrees · 26/01/2023 11:26

I did listen to the segment again. The reporter was the BBC's Scotland correspondent and the tone seemed very definitely one of minimise and whitewash.

However, I imagine the vast majority of WH listeners won't have got much beyond 'SHE was charged with raping two women...' Amid all the subsequent talk of risk assessments and the confusing numbers slung about that fact stood out like a... sort of very obvious totem pole like thing. (Especially to anyone who has seen a photo of the rapist in question.)

You can't get away from the facts on this one. You can try to cover them up but they still stick out quite obviously.

ArabellaScott · 26/01/2023 12:30

Some of the swerves are astonishing, though.

Hepwo · 26/01/2023 12:31

Nicola seems to have backed down on the rapist.

littlbrowndog · 26/01/2023 12:32

Sturgeon has now said that the rapist man will not be jailed in a womens prison
