Great to see Magdalen's legacy getting more coverage.

I'm always happy to be reminded of Magdalen, thanks for sharing

The Daily Mail
This is so bizarre.

MN should be in a lefty sort of outlet seeing as she was a lefty lesbian but where ARE the left????

They're flipping promoting women getting decapitated, raped, burned for talking about women's rights. That's where they are!

Ugh I could cry. And I miss MB. She was so great.

Circumferences · 21/01/2023 22:24

^MN should be MB obvs.

Coxspurplepippin · 21/01/2023 22:29

Magdalen Berns - absolute hero.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 21/01/2023 22:30

Lovely to see her being written about in the MSM. And yes - who'd have thought it.

Mollyollydolly · 21/01/2023 22:37

She would have loved that .. in The Daily Mail. Upside down world.

littlbrowndog · 21/01/2023 22:37

She was. Great boxer great feminist

and oh just fuck off as she said

BornBlonde · 21/01/2023 22:44

An amazing woman

cariadlet · 21/01/2023 22:45

What a great article.

Though, as others have said, it's so bizarre to read it in the Mail. At least, it would have seemed completely bizarre a few years ago but everything's all over the place now.

IcakedefargeIam · 21/01/2023 22:50

That is a lovely article, surreal that it's in the Mail. I'm surprised how strange I find that!

Glioblastoma is a horrible disease, it killed Neil Peart as well. But idiots and fuckwits and liars go merrily on.

Msgrieves · 21/01/2023 22:54

Left and right doesn't mean anything any more. She was great. I just appreciate people who tell the truth, bollocks to political allegiance.

Florissant · 21/01/2023 23:08

Lovely to see an article about MN. No, it's not surprising to see this in The Daily Mail - it is the most gender critical of all the newspapers. It would, however, be a surprise to see in The Guardian.

I hope Ivy Rachel MacKinnon (or whatever they call themselves now) is seething at this. I remember them tweeting a gif of a skeleton dancing on a grave when MB's death was announced.

MadameDefargetheBoiledbeetleversion · 21/01/2023 23:24

I wrote this for the ode to Nicola thread.

I think you can work out which line was about MB

CONSEQUENCES

Those in cells with men
We cry for you

Those not on the podium
We cry for you

Those no longer in your job
We cry for you

Those vilified on line
We cry for you

Those who want to pee in peace
We cry for you

Those no longer here to fight the fight
We cry for you

To all you women in Scotland now
I cry for you.

My favourie Magdelen quote was/is ' they're so open minded, their brains have fallen out'!

Perfect.

well she's been proved right this past few months and definitely this week.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/01/2023 00:12

That was a great read. RIP Magdalen Flowers

“Of course it terrifies you, Alex. They chop your cock off”

JellySaurus · 22/01/2023 01:07

Magdalen's "I'd rather be rude than a fucking liar" was an epiphany for me. And I embraced it. The only thing holding women back from honesty is feminine socialisation.

Magdalen's "I'd rather be rude than a fucking liar" was an epiphany for me. And I embraced it. The only thing holding women back from honesty is feminine socialisation.

You see for me that has been a philosophy I've had for most of my years of existence.

I've never been good at the whole feminine socialisation though, it wasn't how i was dragged up.

We are brought up with you want it. You take it. I think that's why I've always seen all this for what it is.

DrDinosaur · 22/01/2023 02:01

It’s lovely to see her written about as the feminist heroine she was, in mainstream media.
It definitely shows how perceptions have changed - in 2016, had they noticed her at all, the Mail would have portrayed her as one of the loopy man-hating feminists involved in a hilarious spat with transwomen.

twanmever · 22/01/2023 02:12

Magdalen was a breath of fresh air in the women's rights debate. Her clarity was simply astounding, and she made it so much more simple for women like me to be able to voice what was wrong when it seemed impossible to do so. I'm sad to see that after only 5 comments, no more are being allowed on the article. Rest in power Magdalen, the mightiest of us all.

unwashedanddazed · 22/01/2023 08:53

Lovely to see her being given credit for founding For Women Scotland. Their mighty voice is a fitting legacy for this wonderful woman.

LizzieSiddal · 22/01/2023 09:10

Great article. She was really influential for me, she put everything in perfect, direct speech and hit the nail on the head beautifully.

Empowermenomore · 22/01/2023 09:12

I owe to her the resilience and respite her videos gave me to steer impressionable girls that did not fit, away from the physical damage to healthy bodies identifying trans meant then and now.

Did not succeed with all, but some.

Magdalen will be pleased to hear there are healthy lesbians enjoying their full sexuality thanks to her videos. RIP lovely Magdalen 🌸🌸

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/01/2023 10:03

It's great that they link to her YouTube too.
