Why do we need international women's day? Why don't we have a day to celebrate everyone regardless of gender, race, sexuality? Why don't we have international men's day?

😂we do, I think it's 17th November, ask Richard Herring 😂

unclebuck · 16/01/2023 08:16

ahh sorry 19th November is the day we can celebrate men 😂

International Men's Day is in November.

As far as I know there isn't a Celebrate the Human Race day (which I assume would cover the rest on your list) but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we don't need a day where we celebrate everyone on earth at the same time.

There are international days for groups all over the calendar.

Why don't we have international men's day?

hahahahahahaha. Fuck off
We do, it's 19th November.

Are you one of those people i encounter all day on twitter going on and on about "whinge, why women get a day, gripe moan" and then when i contact them on 19th November (believe me i do actually do this with some of them) have no clue and then, unbelievably, moan "whinge moan nobody organised anything for us wah wah wah"

We have trans day of awareness, the one where we remember the murdered trans people, trans awareness week, IDAHOBIT (can't remember what it stands for now) I think there is a day for Lesbians and for gay men, It is Martin Luther King day today, there is Armed forces day, veterans day. So many days.

Not sure if there are any disability awareness days? there is a day in the year when we wear odd socks to celebrate Down's Syndrome. I must look out when it is.

What do you want from Men's day, btw? I spend the day raising awareness on twitter about men's health issues, men's mental health issues, and so on. I tweet resources etc. Boosted mostly by other women, it has to be said.

Oh god it’s not half term already is it? 🙄

SomethingLikeThisNow · 16/01/2023 09:05

😂😂😂😂

Isn't it a bit early for this.

Anyway...

Exam question-
Compare and contrast international women's Day with men's international day. Additional marks for identifying there is an international men's day.

Points to cover -

  1. Participation and discussion points in forums etc.
  2. Volume of whataboutery seen for each.
  3. Data on harm done and by whom for each group.
  4. Cross referencing Richard Herring's twitter account.

There... that should give you something to do

I used to get a version of this when I lived in Engerland.
'All this palaver about St Patrick. What about St George?'
His feast day is 23rd April. Have at it.
But , seriously, International Women's Day is more important than ever.
