Telegraph: NHS Trust taking over trans children care from Tavistock ‘being trained by Mermaids’. And is Stonewall Diversity Champion

Perhaps there was no way to find a part of the NHS that's not trained by Mermaids and isn't a Stonewall devotee. And the fact the Mermaids training is supposedly separate is of no comfort.

This is very far from acceptable.

Any new service must be - and be seen to be - impartial. Nothing else is acceptable.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/01/13/nhs-trust-trans-care-tavistock-mermaids/

"An NHS Trust taking over care of trans children from the Tavistock clinicc_ is being trained by controversial charity Mermaids, The Telegraph can reveal.
The charity, which is at the centre of a number of safeguarding rows and is currently under investigationn_ by the regulator, will provide sessions for staff at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust (SLaM) starting this month.
It comes as the Trust takes over specialist mental health support for children questioning their gender identity as part of a regional service set up to replace the Tavistock after it was found that its service was “not safe”.
Mermaids’ influence on the Tavistock was cited by some whistle-blowers as one of the reasons why it lost its way, with claims that activists put pressure on clinicians to affirm children’s belief that they were trans and to prescribe potentially life-altering drugs.
The Charity Commission is currently carrying out a statutory inquiry into Mermaids amid concerns over its governance and management.
SLaM has insisted that the training is not related to their roles in the new gender identity clinic. It is the second year running the Trust has had “ LGBT+ awareness training” from the charity.
Medics who blew the whistle on Tavistockk
said that the trans charity’s involvement with SLaM is a cause for “concern” and that previous training has been “inaccurate and misleading”. They called for a “completely different approach” at the new NHS service.
...

SLaM, which is a Stonewall Diversity Champion, will provide specialist mental health services at the London clinic, which is being led by a partnership between Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
...

It is expected that the new services will begin in the spring. Before taking control, the Trust booked a number of training sessions to be delivered by Mermaids.
...

A SLaM spokesman said: “This training is not related to the development of an early adopter service for children and young people experiencing gender incongruence and gender dysphoria.
“We commission as well as directly provide high-quality professional training courses from a wide range of providers as part of our training offer for our staff to further support the provision of personalised, safe and therapeutic care for young people and adults using mental health services.”"

Wow, that's good news! It's not changed yet but usually you just get a nameless statement and silence/tweets with replies turned off.

Of course the trust must be, and be seen to be, impartial. And of course no one should get The Training from an organisation under investigation.

More negligence of vulnerable children.
I'd like to disagree very slightly, I see it as abuse, rather than neglect.

Anyway, it seems to be out of the frying pan and into the fire with this.
What on Earth were they thinking, using Wermaids to do this indoctrination? I suppose it's a start that Bradley has promised to review his bizarre decision, but I'm not at all convinced that he'll actually change it.

Dennis Kavanagh was on fire when he wrote his tweets. He is not taking any shit from anyone.

I love ❤️ Dennis

Especially as the decision is inexplicable in the first place unless he is either institutionally captured or extraordinarily ignorant.

I apologise for de-railing but just quickly - Below the tweet by Baroness Foster posted by ResisterRex, I saw a screen shot of this newspaper headline. It is from 2021.
Does anyone know if these dreadfully mistaken inclusivity guidelines were actually ever given to Scottish schools?

“Scottish four-year-olds can change gender at school without parents’ consent
New inclusivity guidelines say teachers should not question pupils but instead ask them for their new name and pronouns”
By
Daniel Sanderson,

“SCOTTISH CORRESPONDENT
12 August 2021 • 5:41pm
Children as young as four will be able to change their name and gender at school without their parents’ consent under new LGBT inclusivity guidelines drawn up by the Scottish Government.”

“A 70-page document, issued to schools north of the border on Thursday, calls on teachers not to question pupils if they say that they want to transition to live as a boy or a girl and to instead ask them for their new name and pronouns.”

“The controversial guidance claims that it is possible to “come out” as transgender “at any age” and that the views of young people should be respected if they do not want their parents to be informed.”

“Scotland’s schools have also been told that trans pupils should be able to use whatever lavatory or changing room they choose, to develop “gender neutral” uniform options, and to include transgender characters and role models in reading material and lessons.”

“LGBT advocacy groups such as Stonewall, which helped draw up the guidance, welcomed the move and claimed the rules would help all children to “thrive”.”

“However, campaigners claimed a dangerous ideology was being pushed into schools and warned that children who displayed normal behaviour, such as playing with toys stereotypically associated with the other sex, risked being wrongly labelled as transgender.”
(article continues….)

Excellent news. Hopefully those who need their help are well supported.

ScrollingLeaves yes, that article is about the official Scottish Government guidelines to all Scottish schools which was just being launched at the time:

www.gov.scot/publications/supporting-transgender-young-people-schools-guidance-scottish-schools/

As it happens sos_scotland on Twitter currently have a petition to ScotGov to withdraw the guidance pending the final Cass Review should you be inclined to sign….

(you don’t need to be resident in Scotland to sign it)

iirc, when the news first came out about the Tavi, wise heads on FWR anticipated that this might happen.

There were also warnings that a regional network of clinics might already have people in place who have particular ideological biases that would tend towards particular clinical responses and choices.

Exactly!! I mean who goes looking for training providers and thinks “yep they are the ones I’ll go for, the ones under investigation and with clear safeguarding breaches!”

This !
