Pitts Children’s Hospital looking into transplant of vagina/uterus from live donors

The Gender and Sexual Development programme at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh has been researching and presenting on transplant of female reproductive organs such as vagina and uterus from live donors into tw.

The ‘study’ carried out asked 182 tw if they would like to have female body parts transplanted so that they could experience menstruation, pregnancy and child birth. 94% of respondents said yes.

I know this has been discussed as a desire in various forums for some time but seeing a Children’s Hospital that also treats gender dysphoric children with puberty blockers and x sex hormones was still a surprise.

Apart from the fact that it seems medically impossible when you consider the complexities of a female body and how brilliantly designed we are, does this sound rather concerning when a hospital that also treats vulnerable young girls is looking to source organs and carry out transplants?

What do the donors do without a vagina?
An ovary transplant would also be necessary as this is involved in menstruating but how would you make ovaries function in a male body?

Modern science is still a long way behind on women’s health and understanding of our bodies - how do they think they know enough to replicate our reproductive capability in a male body?

Mary Shelley had the gift of prophecy, didn't she?

This is gruesome and horrendous.

With this NHS link you can register that you don't want some organs used. Please reconsider opting out totally - just opt out for the bits you don't agree with and otherwise be open to changing a life (if you would otherwise be willing - no pressure!). And make sure you tell your family too as they can override your wishes and they are likely to find an awful situation a bit easier if they know what you want.

The question is one of securing an experience imagined as important to one's (gender) identity and hoped-for parental bonds and whether this is enough to impose a public duty,

There could be a public duty to provide experiences that a person imagines to be important to them? Imagines!

Is there a public duty to provide terminally ill children with a trip to Disneyland?

JellySaurus · 13/01/2023 21:30

I just watched a TikTok with men and women both trying a period pain simulator.

And in all of these the men try the simulators for a few minutes. None of them keep the simulators going day and night for three days. And add nausea.

In the unlikely event this ever becomes feasible, it will be yet another opportunity for poor women to 'empower' themselves by selling their bodies - this time literally - to rich men. Anyone who objects will be accused of denying women 'agency' and 'bodily autonomy.'

All the diseases and conditions in the world and some scientists are dedicating themselves to experiments in non-essential living organ 'donations,' designed to indulge period and pregnancy fetishists.

Trying to analyse why I feel such wrath about this, as I know it's not a medically feasible project for a very long time.

Probably because there are now so many current demands that the female body should be turned into a commercial product, available to be rented for sex or for surrogacy or used as pictures or films for masturbation, and now also to be available as choice cuts. Yet we have trouble even finding an acceptable name for people who actually have those bodies.

Yes, me too @nepeta In addition to your thoughts about the industrialisation & commodification of girls' and women's bodies, it's also so so so ignorant of the complexity of our bodies. That women's biology isn't just:

default male body + "extra" reproductive organs

It "others" women and turns them into objects - yet again.

ConfusedNT · 15/01/2023 13:19

I think one of my issues with it is that it is well documented that medical research neglects women, women's health, and anything specific to women including the reproductive system. Until men want in, then they are willing to spend time and money on uteruses now they are of value to men.

beastlyslumber · 15/01/2023 13:33

This is horrifying. It's like a science fiction novel.

Imnobody4 · 15/01/2023 13:58

The idea is that transmen would donate unwanted body parts to transwomen.
Why not just swap heads?

How on earth would a living woman donate her vagina? Surely that's not a 'thing' that can be removed - it's a muscular lining that creates a supportive internal wall. Fuck I can't articulate this properly but it would be the equivalent of donating a wrist in that it's an integral part of the body and the removal would have impact on the body's integrity.

I know in cases of cancer some drastic surgery is required. I always thought that in gender reassignment surgery it would simply be sewn up if required. And in a radical hysterectomy, everything is removed but the vagina remains. Sorry for my ignorance as I'm sure there are some women on here who gave had to endure gruelling surgeries who would never in a million years have chosen to go through it. And to hear there are some females willing to 'give' parts of their bodies to men who wish to validate their identities by potentially experimenting on live embryos?!

Whoever said 'choice cuts' was right - this is butchery.

Exactly

Mad scientist level bullshit.

TragicMuse · 15/01/2023 18:17

But what about ALL the things a female body does to support a pregnancy?

The heart capacity changing to pump more oxygen?
The increase in blood volume?
The way all other organs move to accommodate the uterus?
The production of prostaglandins and relaxin?
The pelvis?

It's not just a 'swap the bits' exercise it's a deeply and intimately connected whole system that ONLY women have.

Madness. Nauseating madness.

That's why this makes me angry. The female brain is constantly fluxuating and changing to adapt to a pregnancy. I guess this will be the true test to see just how female their brains truly are.

CloudPop · 15/01/2023 19:01

What the fuck. People are being denied basic medical care all over the world (including US) and tome and effort is being spent on translating a uterus from a live donor into a man. WHAT THE FUCK

Tinysoxxx · 15/01/2023 19:10

It won’t happen. And if it does it will be a disaster. It definitely won’t be done on the nhs.

BringerOfDoom · 15/01/2023 19:11

If you play final fantasy 7 then you'll understand the reference.

For those who don't get it this is Hojo an evil scientist and antagonist of a video game that performs highly unethical human experiments turning unconsenting or not fully informed people into monsters simply for the sake of his own self interests and simply because he's curious!

I thought this picture was relevant to the thread. :D the game also follows themes of losing a mother and eventually mother earth through the perversion of science and seeking ambition and power without restraint.
