Piece in Reduxx just published about NHS England’s plan to train maternity staff in the language of birthing people & chestfeeding, based on flawed research. Reduxx digs behind the ideological push for this, and one of its leaders.

Open letter still open for new sigs. I’ll get a link and post below.

Lunatics running the asylum now then.

It is such an own goal for the NHS to have allowed itself to be politicised like this.

Is very difficult to to be sympathetic to the ambulance strike while watching the NHS spend £100000 of taxpayer money on brainwashing its staff to parrot political beliefs I disagree with.

I hope the NHS is being fair about this. I hope they make sure all the other religions get to impose their beliefs across all women accessing maternity services. There'll be no blood transfusions after haemorrhage, no making a noise during labour... Anyone know how Jedi give birth?

And the guy quoted in that article. Wow. They really tested my ability to think unkind thoughts about appearance. Must try harder.

Being fair to who? Two people? Two people who's needs could and should easily have been discussed and met. Two is no threshold for wiping out the female sex.

Any advance on two??

From 13 Feb 2021:

Why are the language police trying to wipe out women?

"As of 2017, the UK had two such people. To coin a phrase, the policy is not for the many, but the few. Women don’t matter; people who have renounced being women do."

Why are the NHS letting people redefine words like this? Gender is a social construct, biological sex is a fact. Nobody’s ‘gender’ should be relevant any more than their zodiac sign or their music ‘tribe’. All maternity leaflets could easily have an asterisk and a note at the bottom saying something like “we use the word “women” in its factual sense to include all female people (this includes trans men and non-binary people)”

People’s preferred form of address is another matter and can easily be accommodated on an individual basis usually. As long as there’s a reminder in policies to be aware of trans people and be sensitive, there no need for the butchering of these policies. Moreover, I don’t think for one moment it’s for the benefit of the small number of trans men/NBs who give birth, it’s a purposeful push to erase women and colonise our experiences.

As an aside, is the use of the radioactivity warning symbol on that outfit deliberate, do we think?

In an August 2022 video titled “Reproductive Justice for Trans People With Ruth Pearce and Francis White,” Pearce explains the focus of his work on ITEMS, policy and language surrounding “trans birth” and the need to highlight transgender people having children to counter the claims that a “trans child” may not reproduce, and to create media that contradicts Abigail Shrier’s claims that child transition can lead to “irreversible damage” of fertility.

So, one of the co-authors of the ITEMs report admits that the point of the report isn't to help biological women with a trans identity give birth, but to us this as a PR opportunity to refute an inconvenient fact (medical transition can cause infertility) with propaganda.

I mean, we can all see that this is what's going on, but they're brazen enough to admit it and yet this document is still being treated as if it's authoritative. It's bollocks!
