Is Gary Lineker about to peak?

According to Glinner, they've had a conversation about mediocre male cheats in women's sport.

I have mixed feelings about Lineker but him
talking about it would get a lot of sunlight on it.

Yes, wouldn't it be useful if Gary Lineker 'saw the light', even though I bet he's seeing the light all over the bloody place.

Gary Lineker is set for life.

He needs to step up.

Signalbox · 05/01/2023 19:28

It's a bit weird to out someone like this though.

Nicedayout22 · 05/01/2023 19:36

Shouldn't out people,I agree. Also, I don't believe he can peak publicly: he's a man with little skin in the game compared to his public image which is basically "be kind" whilst eating crisps.

thirdfiddle · 05/01/2023 19:39

Oh I thought glinner was being tongue in cheek and he'd tried to chat to Lineker on twitter and been blocked so was suggesting others send the evidence.

For anyone keeping track of which Harry Potter cast members are supportive or against trans-rights, you can add Harry Melling (Dudley) to the growing list of supporting actors/actresses who have spoken up.

Oh right I completely missed the point :D

He added: “I don’t want to join the debate of pointing fingers and saying, ‘That’s right, that’s wrong’, because I don’t think I’m the correct spokesperson for that. But I do believe that everybody has the right to choose.”

This is the feeblest "standing up for trans rights" I've ever seen.

Given the overwhelming evidence available, any sports person who thinks male athletes should be allowed to compete against women is deliberately choosing to throw female sport under the bus either out of cowardice or to virtue signal their so called " progressive" ideas

VaddaABeetch · 05/01/2023 20:02

Gary knows which side his bread is buttered, no way he’s going to say anything in support of women. He’d miss the money too much.

@thirdfiddle , good spot. He needs to step up

I think we should wait and see. I think Lineker has been close before and it went nowhere.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 05/01/2023 20:18

I agree - Lineker absolutely knows what a women is & he knows ppl like Sharon davies & Daley Thomson who’ve been so vocal

but he’s got nothing personally to gain by speaking out do he’ll keep quiet

Plasmodesmata · 05/01/2023 20:28

Nothing to gain and a lot to lose, so he'll keep quiet.

LaughingPriest · 05/01/2023 22:11

What would be really unexpected, as in I'd be so surprised my eyebrows would escape my head, is if an anonymous person on that Twitter thread posted something deliberately offensive so that Gary Lineker could then, with a sigh of relief, point to it and go 'ah see it's just too toxic, I'm not engaging'.

That would be novel.

He has also said he believes “transgender women are women and transgender men are men”

LaughingPriest · 05/01/2023 22:30

Out of the 5 different words in that sentence I predict there would be no solid definition forthcoming of 3 of them.
Marg, you're never able to explain what you mean by 'transgender', 'women' and 'men' so I appreciate you keep trying to point to others saying them as if you're trying to pick it up by osmosis or something.

Can you explain how I would find out if I am transgender, a woman, and/or a man? (Don't worry, I know you can't!)

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 05/01/2023 22:42

If Lineker stands up for the rights of female athletes to have female-only sport, I will buy a multipack of Walkers Salt and Vinegar crisps and run around a football pitch with them strapped to my head.

Yup very original... he's obviously pondered long and hard on the subject.😂

We really must be given a proper definition of what a 'woman' or a 'man' is now. In the newspeak it clearly has nothing to do with biological sex at all, and I doubt I have anything in common with, say, Eddie Izzard, that I wouldn't have in common with any man otherwise similar to Izzard. It's certainly not what I have always regarded as womanhood.

As far as I can tell, these new categories are unfalsifiable and ultimately meaningless (as they are mixed sex now), a bit like dividing people into introverts and extroverts in all the forms we must fill in.

BellaAmorosa · 06/01/2023 07:18

Not a chance. I don't think he will put his head above the parapet. Nothing to gain, as PPs have said. I don't believe he takes women's sport seriously anyway.
@MargaritaPie Stop trying to derail the thread. Start your own.

Actually, imagine being Glinner. Really high profile, has paid a high price for speaking up. He says he gets dozens of messages, phone calls etc from similarly high profile people he used to work closely with saying they agree with him but they can't say anything publicly because...... Well...... They don't want the same thing to happen to them......

That's frustrating and enfuriating enough. Now imagine if you saw one of those self same people - not necessarily Lineker, but I am sure this has happened to Glinner - decrying you in the press, or saying they are 'baffled by your stance'.

Not on the same scale, but I am pretty much the only person where I work who ever challenges gender ideology publicly, knowing so many people agree with me. And its really annoying......
