Specifically, a trans woman who murdered their parents (& the family dog) having been moved from a maximum security prison to medium security - specifically, the women’s section of the prison.
One of the things that stands out, being used to the British judiciary making quite remarkable sentencing decisions because TW won’t like prison (it’s great craic for everyone else, of course 🤨) is that when it came to sentencing the judge didn’t consider the fact this offender is trans to be a mitigating factor.
Reduxx have covered it - somehow Maine’s legislature have taken a couple of centuries to decide incarcerated women deserve to have guaranteed access to a range menstrual hygiene products as & when required; but Bill LD1044 has been rushed along through so incarcerated males like this murderer who [decide to] claim they feel they are in fact women, not men, can be moved into women’s prisons.
The ACLU support this absolute travesty, despite knowing women in prison are frequently survivors of abuse: one study found 92% of all women in California prisons had been “battered and abused” in their lifetimes. Pregnant women have a dreadful time in prison - they’re still having to give birth in shackles despite increasing restrictions on it.

Sexual Abuse of Women in U.S. State Prisons - things have improved somewhat since then, but now they’re locking women up with rapists & murderers because said males say they’re women everything is reversing at the most astonishing rate.
Interesting to compare & contrast the problems women face in prison vs those faced by TW. Zero justification for putting TW into women’s facilities, but rather a desperate need to focus on women & their needs. I know, I’m sure we’re all shocked. 🤦♀️
