Japan: self-declared “pervert” self-IDs into women’s sauna

For once it’s not simply a case of what we all think on reading about a male individual entering a sex-segregated space where women are in a state of undress [& then writing about the breasts of the women there]. No, when criticised for having done this, they seemed to think saying they’re “a pervert” was some kind of reasonable explanation.

The Reduxx article also covers changes to Japan’s universities: women don’t want women’s universities to start accepting TW? Do it anyway AND RE-EDUCATE THE BIGOTS! (Anyone who mentions the massive scandal about women being kept out of Japan’s top universities via grade manipulation is obviously the absolute biggest bigot in the world; EXTRA re-education for them!)

Women in Japan endure so much as it is - it’s grotesque that male people are trampling boundaries like this. And they’re lobbying for easier access to spaces where there are naked women self ID - presumably claiming there’s no evidence of it causing issues. Hopefully the women of Japan will be able to demonstrate that absence of evidence is due to a deliberate strategy to ensure no such evidence can be collected; rather than because of a genuine lack of issues.

(Phrase “self-ID” used in title because, while you are able to change sex marker on documents in Japan; sex-segregated spaces are considered to be off-limits to those of the opposite sex even if they’ve changed their ID documents. In Japan, TW are very much not W.)

I haven't been to Japan. It had always been on my list but now, along with other countries, I am having a big rethink about where to spend my money.

But I popped on to say that I've heard that Japanese homes are often built with no or minimal bathing facilities because there's an assumption that people will use the communal ones. Which need, therefore, to be strictly single sex. But if they aren't, what on earth will Japanese women do?

Is this shit ever going to end. The women in japan are already so disadvantaged compared to the men. And now the men want the little the women have to themselves.

@Rightsraptor it’s wretched, isn’t it? I think for elderly women, particularly, males colonising their sentōs would be devastating given the way they function as a community hub not simply a place to perform one’s ablutions. Ugh.

Well that’s several layers of WTAF 😵‍💫 Particularly the protagonist having a sister - who apparently has a handy wig collection 🤔 - but them somehow deciding HE is the obvious choice to take over. Because, er, Reasons?

I like to share when I read about male people having a total normal one in female spaces because my literally broken brain needs the reassurance that other people get the same metaphorical breakage. Also, the more people know about yet another case of a thing that never happens the better, I think? It is a horrendous one though really, even against the backdrop of general awfulness. Japan has an awful lot of cultural issues like the hikikomori & a devastatingly high suicide rate; & it’s a society with an enormous “sex industry” - & accompanying high level of trafficking & exploitation. Possession of images of CSA wasn’t made illegal until 2014 (reported universally as they’re banning “child porn”); the battle to get that legislation extended to depictions in manga is ongoing. This is all with the backdrop of Japan having an abysmal gender equality ranking, combining into a desperately toxic soup that means many men really don’t see women as anything like their equals. (There’s LOADS available to read on gender inequality in Japan if anyone’s interested, I thought I’d stick with something brief that covers the key points though.)
