This is not light-hearted, it's ruining my Christmas. I was told last week that clown fish Roberts has a cameo in tonight's Detectorists. I've only been looking forward to this Detectorists Christmas special for bloody months, haven't I?!!?

It's been a tricky few days with TransChild home for Christmas, before anyone asks... and what with the Scots doing their best to destroy rights for women, I'm not feeling festive still. Need more wine probably.

I'm just so worn down with it all. The Detectorists had been a sunny, soothing, calm for me. So I hate having every little last bit of my life chipped away at or tainted by this insanity!

She will probably just have a tiny walk- on part. I think she's a big disappointment but I still watch her programmes to see all the other people/experts involved. She is not the main attraction!

I do still watch her, cos I enjoy her type of programme.

But I ALWAYS have a little clownfish snigger. She's such a silly pudding. Bless

Professor Alice Roberts, medical doctor, anatomist, always on the box presenting programmes on archaeology and anthropology, but in spite of all of this she thinks the fact that clownfish can change sex is relevant in some unspecified way to humans and gender identity issues. Very disappointing.

However, she was in a blink and you'll miss it role in The Detectorists, so no need for anyone to worry that she would spoil it.

Within archaeological academic circles she's considered an absolute joke. Her professional credibility is very low. People are nice to her face on social media as she can be quite aggressive but the piss taking in private is something to behold. And these are people who have no idea about trans activism etc.

She’s not an archaeologist. She trained as a medical doc, with further training in anatomy. She’s a presenter, not an expert. They can say she’s a joke all they like, they all still want to be on Digging for Britain..

"she's a presenter not an expert" absolutely agree. Sadly she hasn't got that memo and her attacks on other, more junior academics have been unpleasant. But noted by the wider community.

On a slight tangent, did anyone watch Sue Black presenting the first of Royal Institution Christmas Lectures last night?

I used to like her but she's on everything and doesn't have a lot of personality. Just sort of mumbles through tight teeth.
I find her boring and uninspiring. However. I'm amazed she has no quality in anthropology or archaeology or history. That's all her shows are about.

I must have blinked because I missed her.
I got Andy and Lance talking about her. Seems plausible enough that they would fancy her. After all it’s not like they are on Twitter. You can imagine someone thinking DMDC ought to have a Twitter account (the Antiquisearchers definitely would) and getting bored after about 3 tweets.

I really like her, but each to their own. We went to a talk when she was touring a couple of years ago, and she said she got into archaeology after graduating, when she joined her then-boyfriend, now-husband, who was an archaology student, for a volunteer dig, and things grew from there. She became famous and it's now her husband who follows her around.

Thank god it was a non speaking cameo, she didn't ruin much of it at all! Although I do think less of Mackenzie Crook now, for having her on... yes I'm overly invested and emotional about both Detectorists and trans issues...
