What would happen if…

We all identified as trans women?

I often think this, and would be really interested to hear views of the FWR women.

What would happen if it became a hate crime against females to 'identify as a woman' when you're a male. Let's reclaim the word woman and stop the handmaids and their toxic male TWAW overlords.

LaughingPriest · 23/12/2022 17:13

@dadjoke is always asked the same thing and always posts something irrelevant to try and hide the fact he doesn't know the answer. I'm honest when I say I don't know how trans is defined well enough to establish whether someone is or not. I understand gender dysphoria and wanting to be the opposite sex - if this is what DadJoke thinks 'transgender' means then why not just say it? But it seems to be more than that. But he doesn't know what, at least he's not able to articulate it.

And yes, 'gender reassignment' includes people who say they intend to transition. I didn't want to confuse DadJoke with too many points, though... as it seems he's quite muddled about it all.

Perhaps this will be of interest to this discussion. Seems wims are already on it!

Oh, that's fair cheered me up!

LaughingPriest · 23/12/2022 17:14

But at least it's been admitted on this thread that it's logically possible to "lie" about being trans - that simply saying you are doesn't mean you are. If only someone could clarify what it is!

xalo · 23/12/2022 17:21

Haha always a good laugh @DadJoke

SnowAndIceLobelia · 23/12/2022 17:21

Tempting. And I'd get £5 k a year more from my firm if my (younger, less qualified) room mate at work is anything to go by.

Plus i would not have to actually do anything liek dress differently, take hormones or have surgery. Plus i could actually some days be in girl mode or boy mode depending on what suits me at the time.

In the meantime I'd like to identify my way out of some chronic health problems as well because they are getting me down a bit as well.

DadJoke doesn’t seem to appreciate that you don’t need to identify as transgender under the GRR Bill in order to obtain a GRC. You just need to

”apply to the Registrar General for Scotland for a gender recognition certificate on the basis of living in the other gender”

And this intention is to be a permanent decision at the point of your declaration . Very hard to disprove short of, for example, documenting that you are intending to do it on a whim.

There is no mention of transitioning or being transgender in the Bill and our Shona has made it very clear that living in the other gender is not about clothes or hair, or even a name change, although a name change might be an easy way to prove your intentions as she has indicated a utility bill in a new name could provide evidence.

In the absence of any concrete guidance, it is very much for the individual to decide how they are living as the opposite gender and the point of the process is to stop all that intrusive, upsetting questioning and burden of proof. Perhaps some may find benefit in being legally male. 😉

Read the form with which you apply. You have to say when you have transitioned. Only transgender people transition, ad yet those complete clowns at legally male say they want a GRC without transitioning. I can't believe that people who are so invested in this issue haven't done the most basic research.

ofwarren · 23/12/2022 17:31

Interesting
Might make it easier to get a hysterectomy. Just declare yourself a man and pay a £5.
I know women who've been refused or had to wait years.

But that’s the beauty of the Bill! You don’t need to “lie” about being trans because there is nothing in the Bill about being trans. It’s all about living as the opposite gender and how you define that is really up to you (though I would suggest including some stereotypical stuff)

The Bill is clearly not just for trans people but also for anyone who might wish to legally be the opposite sex with minimal effort! 😉

Namechangeasbeingabitch · 23/12/2022 17:33

If trans women are women, is the converse true? Are women trans women? If not, what’s the difference?

midgetastic · 23/12/2022 17:33

But as far as I can tell I have transitioned

I am no different to any man - except those that actually want to be women - that I can't understand so I guess I am not a woman

I mean my instincts say gender is something that should be deprecated but I am going with the consensus in government and toeing the line as best I can

But it’s up to you HOW you transition! That’s the beauty of it! There is no definition and again, our Shona says it could be a change in utility bill, so you could use that date as the date of your transtion!

rogdmum · 23/12/2022 17:39

Can someone please post the link to the new Scottish GRC application form as referenced by DadJoke ?

LaughingPriest · 23/12/2022 17:49

Only transgender people transition

You don't know what either of those terms actually mean, though, do you?

ReadtheReviews · 23/12/2022 17:57

I was thinking last night, when should a woman in Scotland identify as a man:
When in their 30s applying for jobs so they arent discriminated against in case they go on maternity.
When shopping for cars so they dont get talked down to.
When applying for jobs as a primary school teacher as they are very keen for more males.
When a looking for work as a professional dancer as the market is female saturated.
When buying hairdye or having haircut - notably cheaper.

Any more?

ditalini · 23/12/2022 18:06

Impressive display of gatekeeping by DadJoke here.

Hardly in the spirit of the new legislation.

Rainbowshit · 23/12/2022 18:31

How does one transition please?

SinnerBoy · 23/12/2022 18:47

DadJoke? Bad joke, more like.

JanesLittleGirl · 23/12/2022 19:40

What would happen if... DadJoke realised that the whole thing is built on sand?

Rainbowshit · 23/12/2022 18:31

No effort needed. Just pay a fiver and off you go...

ArabellaScott · 23/12/2022 20:09

Oh, gosh. Hold on.

I think ... wait ... oooh ...

I think I just transitioned.

Where do I sign for one of the new certificates please?

ArabellaScott · 23/12/2022 20:09

I just got a utility bill, too, so that's that sorted.

What does transitioning consist of please?

I think I might have transitioned last Tuesday but I'm not sure. How will I know?

Did you want to buy a powertool or have a pee while standing up or just feel like wearing a pair of comfortable trousers. All of these would qualify you.

lifeinthelastlane · 23/12/2022 22:24

I'm pretty sure we worked out before that most of us came under the trans umbrella (not identifying fully with gender assigned to us). So we must be entitled to a certificate to demonstrate this?
