TRA in the comments (responding to someone asking how many pupils in a schools would be trans anyway) very nearly had a moment of being self-aware mes enfants:
More would exist if there were less bigots and they were allowed things like public bathrooms if you cant use the bathroom you cant exist in public
Leaving aside the eye-bleeding fewer-not-less error & the lazy nonsense of squawking “bigot!” like a malapropism-prone piratical parrot whose owner favours [gold] bullion rather than pieces of eight… (i) not letting boys use the girls loos isn’t the same as removing their access to toilet facilities (ii) letting boys [however they identify] use the girls loos actually is removing some girls’ access to toilet facilities because they need single sex provision.
So it is known & understood that not having access to public toilets removes you from participation in public life. It is very easy to expand that principle beyond school toilets to public toilets more generally; & girls & women (to leave to doubt, I’m referring to human females) of all ages. Girls & women are more prone to getting UTIs - specifically according to the US Government’s info site on them, women get UTIs up to 30 times more often than men do. Also, as many as 4 in 10 women who get a UTI will get at least one more within six months - so will suffer physical consequences of trying to avoid using the bathroom. We also lack the anatomical configuration for al fresco urination of any kind of ease - not that such behaviour is desirable/to be encouraged; but the reality is that only some people claiming to be excluded from public facilities & thus public spaces are using public spaces as public facilities; & they are all of the same sex, whatever myriad gender identities they may claim.
Despite this apparently somehow it remains impossible to make that final leap of comprehension to mixed sex facilities exclude women from public life. Is it just a complete absence of empathy? The triumph of ascience (we are all clownfish of unknown sex)? That parrot squawk of BIGOT! justifies exclusion - it doesn’t matter if you are obeying thousands of years of religious teaching or if encountering a male person in the toilets will cause you to have have flashbacks to a brutal assault. Your deeply held faith is WRONG! It doesn’t matter the law in the UK protects it; it is to be trampled because it is in opposition to the new “enlightened” age. And of course we all know women are meant to just reframe their trauma.
”It’s all fine/there aren’t any problems…” (etc etc) leaves out the crucial “for [people like] me/my friends”. All those quiet bits that are, for many of the cheerleaders, unsayable. Because the word they’ve stolen from the (American) black community to wear like a merit badge or good work sticker should be stripped from any & all who wear it with such pride while - mostly white - men trample on the rights of women of faith, women who are frequently members of minority religions & members of various African, South Asian & Middle Eastern diasporas. There’s space on their social media (a general they, not the user I quoted earlier) for Yazidi women & Afghan women - it’s ok when they’re a hashtag, an abstract. But faced with the reality of refugee girls & women & the horrific traumas they’ve endured? Hurry up & assimilate. Reframe your trauma. And don’t speak.
