As usual as journalist doesn't understand biology

"It came from GenderGP, a private online health service that treats people suffering from gender dysphoria – the distress of identifying as a gender different from the one assigned at birth."
Gender isn't assigned, sex is observed.

This article also doesn't question why this child struggled with periods, it's a difficult experience for any young women

"It would put an end to the menstrual periods he dreaded."

I just feel so sorry for this young person. I hope this private doctor is explaining the consequences of treatment

Absolutely! "His" periods will definitely stop when things turn out badly and a hysterectomy becomes a medical necessity.

Reuters has been captured for a long time.

Menarche and beyond is nothing but inconvenience at school and when out and about in public spaces. It might not always be that manageable at home, depending on the set-up and household members.

Those poor children. I feel so sorry for the mother who is trying desperately to keep her daughter's options open and sincerely thinks that the Tavistock is the way to do this. These kids are being promised a magic pill and no effort is being made to address 'co-morbidities' otherwise known as 'causes'. It's heartbreaking

It is so sad. These girls are going to be catapulted into menopause decades too early. The only treatment for awful things like vaginal atrophy and leaky bladder for example is oestrogen.
I have osteoporosis and I wouldn't wish it on anybody, especially 30 years earlier than might be expected.

I probably know less women that cope ok with their periods right now than that dread then tbh. As we march through our 40s it seems so many people I know are struggling with bleeding/pain/fibroids/peri. I always dreaded mine what with endometriosis, extreme pain, heavy bleeding to the point of severe chronic anaemia.

As a teen there were so many friends and peers who struggled to continue activities and sports, manage things like camping and family holidays abroad etc ...the lack of imagination it must take to not realise that periods aren't Dylan M skippy wonderful for a lot of women and girls a lot of the time...

Wilful ignorance, I'd have said, @InfluenzalA combined with internalised misogyny we've had from the Book of Genesis onwards - didn't the bible command that women would give birth in pain as a punishment for being tempted by Satan?

TheBiologyStupid · 26/12/2022 11:35

Yup, Genesis Chapter 3, verse 16: "Unto the woman He said: 'I will greatly multiply thy pain and thy travail; in pain thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.' "

Misogyny and patriarchy all in one sentence.
