The "organisation" which has replaced "Steph's Place" has big news and there just isn't enough popcorn in the world:

'"I am a biologist, and I mainly study molecular and cell biology in the context of cancer research, but like all sciences, my work is highly interdisciplinary and intersectional.'

= 'I've no specialist knowledge in this area but feel qualified to wax on because science is all sciencey amirite intersectional.'

Thisinformationis consistent with what we know about the cognitive differences between men and women: men tend to perform better at spatial tasks (parietal lobe), and women perform better on verbal tasks (frontal lobe).

Tendencies are just that. Generalisations. If you get someone who is in the top 15% for spatial tests, does that reliably tell you whether that brain is in a male or female body?

If it's accurate 90% of the time (! for example), doesn't the existence of even the other 10% show that "being good at spatial tasks" presents (or doesn't) in both males and females in varying degrees?

Well, that was embarrassing for them.

It seems to say there's no biological process for not being trans therefore being trans is biological.

Also I give a shit about my eggs. Women do, a lot. This is written by man isn't it?

Kucingsparkles · 20/12/2022 07:36

Well good grief. How embarrassing.

To be fair, it could well have been written by a "research scientist" because that's very broad, any newly-minted PhD student for example.

Couple of points immediately spring to mind.

(1) It is entirely "have cake and eat it" as we would expect, because everybody must agree that Genderism is Innate And Biologically Real Look At These Tests Therefore Most Oppressed, and yet It Would Be Very Wrong To Test Instead Of Just Accepting The Magic Words That Anybody Could Say.

(2) the genitalsand the brain develop independently, and we know of no biological process which forcesthem to align Even if this were true (which it is not because we are not Meat Lego) isn't it strange that anybody at all manages to alight on the "correct" innate gender, because how can gender be innate if these developments are independent?

Interesting that it confirms that what is happening in your brain has nothing to do with which sex you are.

Good also to see it confirmed that there is no one standard brain for a man of a woman.

Interesting to see that the study concludes that if you don't have the most typical mental attributes for someone of your sex, then that explains why an individual might consider themselvs to be the opposite sex.

Wellies54 · 20/12/2022 08:03

So, what I get from a skim read is transwomen have slightly better verbal reasoning skills than other men? Really?! Obviously this makes it vitally important that they use female toilets.

HAHAHAHA! They wouldn't say that if they'd been married to one.Hmm

Gender is a distinct characteristic from sex.It is not voluntarily mutable

so if you’ve got lady brain there’s no way to change it? Does this mean I’ll only be able to think about kittens forever?? 😢

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 20/12/2022 09:43

no consideration of the physical differences between men and women in that article. It’s bizarre

that person really does subscribe to the meat Lego belief I think. Contrary to all the evidence they will have experienced throughout their entire life

astonishing

ErrolTheDragon · 20/12/2022 09:50

Gender is a distinct characteristic from sex.

If that was true (and evidence in different cultures/time periods suggests otherwise) that would mean for anything rationally divided by sex - sports, loos, etc etc would, a persons 'gender' would be irrelevant and only sex would matter.
Well, yes. These things never were about what was in peoples heads.
