This is concept only (I hope!) but I find it interesting the continued drive to divorce the mother-child dyad, and that some of the positive responses don’t seem to think of the massive harms this tech could do vs the very small upsides.

My fear is that even if this is a concept only now, it won’t stay that way because the seed is now planted (262k views) and the future looks terrifying.

(As an aside I notice all the babies are white)

“Watch this commercial for an artificial womb facility that aims to grow human babies in a factory.

Aside from assisted suicide, this is the most dystopian thing I’ve seen.”

”This could actually save so many premature babies if the uterus suddenly fails for any reason. Our firstborn was premature and for several weeks it was touch and go. I found myself wishing for something like this many times. So I say yay for technology”

This is terrifying, and I’m really sorry but my mind instantly went to more nefarious reasons why people (men) might want to create a readily available source of babies/children who don’t have a family (mother) to protect them. ☹️

I was listening to a science podcast this weekend that mentioned that early medical trials of smallpox vaccines were performed on prisoners and orphans

that’s what happens to children who don’t have parents to protect them. They become a resource. This whole idea is monstrous

This would turn babies into a commodity, much as commercial (and most of so-called altruistic) surrogacy does. Which is why we need to oppose the practice with all of our might.

In the final instance this would result in unprotected children as property, either of the state as in Brave New World or corporations growing slave labour. Because as a species we always manage to stretch any advance into the unacceptable, inhumane use cases.

It’s scary how this kind of thing, even just as concept, has no comprehension of the fact that the mother and child interact during pregnancy.

It has been said many times now on any uterus transplant threads.

I believe it is males who have no idea how foetuses grow using the mother’s body. And that to have an implant that will grow a foetus will also require an other transplants. It is not ‘just a bag’. There is an entire system that pulls what it needs from other body parts. There will never be that connectivity in a male, so it will all be artificial.

Who the fuck wants to do this to human infants that grow into adults??? Who?? And who the fuck does it benefit?

NitroNine · 12/12/2022 23:11

Can’t help but wonder if he’s pals with Dr Narendra Kaushik, whose plans to transplant a uterus into a trans woman were discussed in May by ethicists for the AMERICAN COUNCIL ON
SCIENCE AND HEALTH: Promoting science and debunking junk since 1978.

Could they perhaps take a look at even the simple suggestion in this BJOG nightmare from 2018 Uterine transplantation in transgender women that not allowing a TW to have a uterus Tx would constitute a breach of the equalities act?

Someone developing better incubator technology is lovely if, for example, it means [micro-]preemies wouldn’t have ongoing pulmonary issues/they’d be much milder. Or if they’d enable babies to spend less time in hospital. As a PP noted, even that inevitably leads to a push to try to save ever-younger preemies; which is in turn tangled into abortion-related legislation. This whole “inspired by Brave New World” set-up, though? Nooooooo.

" Can we have a country with really tall walls where the old farts who don't want to participate in this utter nightmare and the inevitable consequences
can live? "

Perhaps for her next trick, we could persuade JKR to buy a nice big island somewhere nice and warm, for us all to go and live?
We could have basket weaving and bingo and most importantly, peace and quiet!

After reading these replies and thinking on it, in the case where they are suggesting this could help combat falling birth rates, where are all these eggs coming from? And whose sperm? Just one male or multiple? What happens with the birth certificates or do these children just never get registered?

Are they all ‘born’ at the same time? If so, who feeds and changes the possible 30,000 babies? Are there other post natal factories they get moved onto to free up the birth factories?

I wonder if the man that created this advert has even thought beyond the ‘wooo bag babies!’ The whole premise is just so creepy and disturbing.

Robots Humpty.

You forget the Robots who will feed them. Because the male who thinks this would ever be a good idea, wants these humans gestated devoid of the humanity that comes from the sounds and sensations of being carried in a woman.

And if their brain lacks that stimulation before birth, why bother with it after.
