US rowing - throw women’s only rowing under a bus by accepting men who have gone through male puberty but are now magically women. But when it comes to mixed boats of 8 the 4 women have to ba e been born female. Why? Because otherwise it’s unfair on the men in the other boats. Riiiiiiiiiight. Got it. 😡

I'd like to see them explain why there have to be "50% athletes assigned as female at birth" in the mixed events.

Then explain why the same doesn't apply to the women's events.

BedTaker · 06/12/2022 11:43

Omg!!!

I wonder how the would explain their thought process behind this if pressed on it?

It's kind of depressingly fascinating in a way.

CyanCyan · 06/12/2022 11:46

I was talking to a friend about this yesterday. How are transmen received in men’s team sports? Are they happy to have a physically weaker-strengthed, biological woman on board or do they think this would put them at a disadvantage?

WeeBisom · 06/12/2022 11:52

The most infuriating thing to me about the trans shit is how “trans rights” are chucked out the window the second it negatively affects men… and men magically aren’t called transphobes or bigots. We’ve seen it time and time again. It’s not a coincidence. Trans men can’t inherit titles but trans women can, men aren’t called prostate havers or ejaculators, men don’t have to compete with trans women in mixed rowing teams. Etc.

Imicola · 06/12/2022 12:01

I sometimes wonder about other sports where males might not have an advantage. Any trans women trying to compete in the female gymnastics categories for example, as my understanding is that female gymnastics competitions are more focused on female abilities (eg flexibility rather than strength)? Are there sports where they would be disadvantaged?

Ndd135632 · 06/12/2022 12:06

@CyanCyan transmen (eg women) would never get onto a man’s team so they don’t need to confront it. They only now need to confront it when Andy Murray’s mixed doubles tennis partner is 6 foot 4 with a 5 o clock shadow.

Maybe transitioned females tend to compete in male categories but as individuals?

Or at a social level rather than as an elite competition.

Sports such as shooting is one where it may not have such effect. But most other sports have clear aspects where males have advantages over females.

Yes this is what we concluded. It’s never going to be an issue for men.

Ndd135632 · 06/12/2022 12:41

@CyanCyan yep agree.

I hadn’t thought what would happen with mixed teams tho until I see this. Now it becomes obvious that they won’t disadvantage men on the other teams by putting a transwoman in the place of a biological woman. It all now becomes clear.

Welcome to the patriarchy. Makes me SO SO mad there are still women who don’t get it (or are too scared to say it) and are busy waving them on through.

Andy is a feminist right. If I were him I would walk onto that mixed doubles tennis court with Jamie in a tennis skirt.

Oh I do hope so.

Wellies54 · 06/12/2022 13:02

I've been waiting to see what would happen when there was the possibility of TW taking the place of women in mixed competition. Either you would have increasing numbers of TW until no teams have women or everyone suddenly discovers biology. Looks like the latter has happened. Absolutely no way men will accept being disadvantaged!

napody · 06/12/2022 13:26

Bitter laugh.

And this is 'only' the mixed events which I imagine (like mixed doubles in tennis) are considered a lower status event than the men's. Imagine all male teams or individual males having to accept being unlikely to ever win an event because a group of taller, stronger, larger-lunged aliens were identifying into their events. When will the penny drop?

Well the hierarchy is achingly clear.

  1. biological men who identify as men
  2. biological men who identify as women
  3. biological women whatever they identify as

If group 1 is disadvantaged by group 2 then sex matters. But group 2 can be women when it is only group 3 they disadvantage.

Clear and many thanks

Absolutely!

Igmum · 06/12/2022 18:06

WTF? I mean they're not even bothering to pretend now. This is so skewed it's embarrassing

startfresh · 06/12/2022 19:26

Wait. What did I just read. I thought it was going to be something like gymnastics.

I can't even RTFT and wouldn't normally comment. I'm just shocked.

BornBlonde · 06/12/2022 19:39

Disgusting

ScrollingLeaves · 06/12/2022 20:00

Are they not ashamed and embarrassed by this contradiction of their own terms?

So clear, and so depressing.

Womens’ sports…meh.

Mixed teams are not a new thing though. There are more of them in sports just recently, but some sports have long had mixed teams, especially at a more recreational level. There have been accepted ways to make those fair from long before transwomen in women's sports was an issue. So in a certain way this is just a continuation of that practice.

I think the main factor accounting for the difference with women's sports is there was suddenly this demand for transwomen to be in them, totally apart from any standardized way of thinking about what that would mean. Plus, there were a lot of people when this started claiming that transwomen were closer to women biologically, and that muddied the waters.

I suspect, myself, that the push to new mixed sports has in part strategic, designed to make very clear to the general public the performance differences in the male and female body.

Wellies54 · 07/12/2022 17:41

But the point is, TW either have an advantage over women or they don't. If it's fair for TW to compete against women in the female category then it is equally fair for a mixed team of 4 men and 4 women to compete against a mixed team of 4 men and 4 TW because they should have no advantage.

Of course it is obvious that TW do have an advantage over women but somehow women are expected to ignore this and be kind, men are allowed to say, hold on, biology...., just proving that men competing is taken seriously, women's sport is seen as a side show to the main event.

Hopefully this hypocrisy will be used in court to make women's sport just for women again.
