Scottish women's groups hit back after UN official's trans law reform warning - remember their names

Women's groups in Scotland have hit back at an intervention from a UN official who called on the Scottish Government to pause its transgender law reforms.

In a letter co-signed by six feminist organisations, Reem Alsalem was told groups were “surprised and disappointed” by her comments.

The heads of Engender, JustRight Scotland, Scottish Women’s Rights Centre, Scottish Women’s Aid, Amnesty International Scotland and Rape Crisis Scotland, accused Alsalem of failing to speak with human rights or feminist organisations in Scotland before making her intervention.

.
Shocking to know that both the co-ordinating groups of Rape Crisis services and Women's Aid refuges have signed.

That's why I've started a new thread so it doesn't get lost in all the other stories coming out of Scotland.

Rape Crisis is a ScotGov mouthpiece.

Whereareyourshoes · 30/11/2022 19:28

What a load of self-serving bollocks.

ArabellaScott · 30/11/2022 19:31

From what I've heard women working in organisations directly providing services to women often don't share these ideas. It seems to be more the high head yins.

Abitofalark · 30/11/2022 19:48

I assumed from the thread title that Scottish women's groups were challenging the Scottish government as a result of the UN rapporteur's comments and request for a pause in the proposed legislation. Women's groups are for women, after all. Turns out these groups are not what I'd call women's groups but more into prioritising males over women and girls' needs.

Yup, these are the "managerials" who self identify as our representation and they do not fucking like it one bit when the lessers won't do what they're telt.

These so called women's organisations run by people so high on their own virtuousnes make me absolutely sick. I will even go so far as to say that I actually think it's evil

yes we should refuse to call them women's groups when they quite clearly are MRA groups. They have not dressed up their misogyny as much as they hoped.

I know we often say why dont trans women and allies organise their own services.

Now it seems we need to ask why did women take jobs, volunteer or join Management Committees of women's groups when they dont believe in women having groups.

If a group set up on a specfic set of principles then found some members or staff were trying to change the direction of the group they would either be asked to support the principles of the group or leave.

Yes somehow women using entryist tactics have not only been allowed to colonise groups, but no one seems to think it is a problem.

Once again a cleat statement that women aren't seen as being autonomous beings who have their own ideas and beliefs. Imagine if say a Labour Party group found out that loads of tories had joined and collaborated to change the aims and objectives to those of the tories. (sorry that's a bad example given the state of political parties so hope it doesn't distract from the point I am making)

It is so reprensible, but yet this is what Stonewall did, changing a campaign group for people who were same sex attracted to be about everything under the rainbow.

These women should hang their heads in shame.

They are all disgusting. I'm afraid it looks like women in Scotland are going to have to mobilise and start all over again as these organisations have totally failed and betrayed them. Shameful. Beyond shameful.

ALL of them as far as I'm considered can get in the sea and stay there. Every single one of them promotes the patriarchy.

^^This.

Helleofabore · 30/11/2022 21:08

No surprises there sadly.

Thelnebriati · 30/11/2022 23:09

Its sickening to see organisations in the women's sector so thoroughly captured.

IwantToRetire · 01/12/2022 00:27

And getting the lion's share of funding for doing it.

Blocked replies.

I think it's really worth noting this idea that these groups see the way to dealing with problems like rape as being about a kind of wholesale change of "the system."

It's totally abstracted, and they seem to think that if we change this system, we will become wholly different kinds of human beings. We will not be bothered by hang-ups like privacy, and rape will be done with as well.

All these yahoos have degrees in fake subjects that teach fake systems based on fake ideas about human nature.

AutumnLeaves23 · 01/12/2022 01:44

I left Amnesty when they failed to give me a reasonable answer of why they supported violent protests against a women against violence conference. (A few years ago in the UK).

They talked down to me for daring to object!

Truly shocked. I’d been a member all of my life. Where is their focus on actual human rights abuse rather than privileged men?

Igmum · 01/12/2022 03:01

This is appalling. I'm relieved that the women working at grass roots level are sane, but these people are selling out whole swathes of activity. What can be done to stop them?
