I heard a quote from Boris Pasternak's mighty state-of-the-Soviet-Union novel Dr Zhivago yesterday. He was talking about Marxism, as practised under Stalin. Does it remind you of an ideology that's being enforced now?

I don't know of any teaching more self-centred and farther from the facts. Ordinarily, people are anxious to test their theories in practise, to learn from experience. But those who wield power are so anxious to establish the myth of their own infallibility that they turn their backs on the truth as squarely as they can. Politics mean nothing to me. I don't like people who are indifferent to the truth.

A good reminder that the power holders will change their faces and stories a million times but the purpose remains the same: To control those they want to disempower.

Stalin practice Stalinism, not Marxism.
There's a narrative being pushed atm the moment, which is that there is no right or left in politics any more. Queering politics is part of the same agenda imo. It feels like a power grab; make people confused and disgusted and they will back off, leaving you in control.

Same shit. Different political cycle. When I studied Animal Farm and 1984 at school I thought, yeah, I know that's happened in the USSR - where I later lived and worked for a while - but it would never happen here.
