Ergh....

So work are on about Gender Based Violence against women and girls, surely they are targeted due to their sex, not gender...

How do I word that articulately?

Maybe it’s going to be about the violence against trans people and that’s why they’ve positioned it like that? I’d ask them.

There's an official campaign and they focus on VAW and femcide. I wouldn't jump the gun at work, but I think I would say something if they didn't focus on the actual issue.

''The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual campaign that begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs through International Human Rights Day on 10 December.''

This is the one, why have the called it gender based, when women are targeted because of their sex.

I don't believe in gender ideology

Just out of interest, how many trans identified people have been killed because they were trans in the UK in the past 5yrs?

Tried to Google but it just says about the world.

This might help you:

kareningalasmith.com/2021/04/21/counting-dead-trans-people/

For anyone not familiar with Karen Ingala-Smith who might find the above title somewhat harsh:

kareningalasmith.com/counting-dead-women/

In a tweet response to Claudia Webbe MP, Karen Ingala Smith notes that as far as is known there hasn't been a single transperson murdered in the UK since Amy Griffiths in January 2019. (Claudia Webbe had tweeted that there had been 8 UK transpeople murdered between Oct 21 and Sept 22 due to anti trans violence)

Of course violence is targeted against women because of their sex, but the wording 'sex-based violence' could be understood as sexual violence. 'Gender-based violence' makes sense if you think of women being assaulted because they do or do not conform to a societal stereotype, or because of masculine stereotypes that male attackers follow.

Did Claudia Webb cite her evidence? That's quite a statement for an MP to make unsubstantiated.

I got that tweet info from this thread:

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4681639-welsh-parliament-tweet-re-trans-remembrance-day?reply=121720986

KI-S pulled her up on it.

I used some of your quote, so thank you

You're very welcome.

I don't wish to minimise the deaths of any of the trans identified people listed by KI-S, but I do think it is important to realise that compared to the number of murders of women, there are very few.

It's always useful to be able to back that assertion up with facts, though.
