Am I on a list?

This has happened a couple of times now - I go to look up the tweets of someone I’ve seen being quoted on Twitter, or look up their profile to find out more about them and I find they’ve blocked me. Often it’s someone I’ve never heard of, let alone interacted with, prior to this…so how come I’m blocked?

I mean, I don’t really care because they’re almost always loons anyway (much as it is always highly entertaining to read IW’s posts - which I can do anyway from my other account) but is someone somewhere operating a black list?

Yeah. Block lists exist. The progressive left (using American parlance - in many ways it's not particularly left) are pretty into sharing them. You see it outside of Gender politics too.

One of the first "terfblocker" lists was created by these two fragrant characters... David and Aimee Challenor.

Only click if you've got a strong stomach

I think this is another reason they HATE mumsnet so much. You can block people. They want to make women disappear.

This has happened to me as well, either I'm on a list or people with way too much time on their hands are going through who's liked certain tweets and blocking as they go 🤷

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 27/11/2022 23:35

yes there are block lists.

how to circumvent - have one account that's your "actual" Twitter account which does all the tweeting, retweeting, replying and liking. have a second account which has a registered name but never posts, or likes, just reads. you get put on a block list just for liking or following someone who is already on a block list so be a complete blank slate.

I think you can be blocked by association too. So just following someone who follows a wrong thinker, can get you added to the naughty list.

Obviously the Santa Claus naughty list is entirely different. 🎅

Yes I appear to be on at least one blocklist (think it’s Edward Lord’s) despite not really getting involved in the gender wars on Twitter, apart from the odd like, and usually only of imo fairly measured posts. I assume it’s because of who I follow. Someone mentioned a blocklist featuring all of Julie Bindel’s followers for example, but I don’t know if that real or not.

I have a second boring account where I can look up people. I follow gardening things there so no blocks.

V annoyed at the amount of royal family stuff it pushes though. Esp anti Meghan. It did that from the start as I marked myself British. Makes me extra suspicious of algorithms

Some people use blockers that are a bit random and block everyone who liked a tweet that you set the blocker to work on, eg.

"Don't like a bad tweet? Block the tweet, its author, and every single person who liked it—in one click."
