Column from Susan Dalgety.

’Nicola Sturgeon’s hypocrisy knows no bounds. On Tuesday in Edinburgh, she will make the keynote speech at an event to mark the 30th anniversary of Zero Tolerance, the campaign to end violence against women and girls.’

Thanks for sharing - great article.

Such lazy commentary against a staunch feminist in Nicola. A GRC continues to mean nothing other than a birth certificate change. There are no other special rights contained in it other than making a piece of paper more readily available for those who wish to affirm their gender.

GRC is not produced to prove anything - certainly not to enter a space reserved for women. You actually can’t demand legally to see one.

it’s the EA2010 that we all know regulates this space.

GRC changes nothing on current access to gender based segregation.

but never let the facts get in the way of a good opportunity for propaganda…..

Happylittlechicken · 26/11/2022 09:52

Well if a GRC is so unimportant @MishyJDI why do people demand that access to one be fast tracked? Surely if it’s not an important piece of paper, it doesn’t matter how long it takes to get one? So either it’s a very important piece of paper needed to access services reserved for the opposite sex, or it’s not important and therefore waiting is fine? Which is it?

Whereareyourshoes · 26/11/2022 10:50

A reminder of the concerns raised by the UN Special Rapporteur about Scottish Gender reforms:

https://spcommreports.ohchr.org/TMResultsBase/DownLoadPublicCommunicationFile?gId=27681

A ‘staunch feminist’ would not dismiss these concerns, also raised by many other women.

Yeah, calling NS a ‘staunch feminist’ is like calling the Conservative party a ‘party supporting the poor’.

So Mishy which single sex spaces should be allowed to exclude male people who identify as women? Female prisons, female refuges, female rape victims' counselling groups?

Yeah right. You will all be demanding access to single sex places as soon as you have your GRC claiming that for all intents and purposes it makes you 'indistinguishable' from a woman. You've been misrepresenting the Equalities act for years and if what you claim is true (it isn't) why the pushback against clarifying that the act means biological sex and not legal sex? Honestly, people can read. If you say something in one place how do you expect to hide it in another? We see you.

Ramblingnamechanger · 26/11/2022 12:35

Only problem in the article is that it puts transwomen in the group of women, which is not helpful if clarification here is important.

334bu · 26/11/2022 12:45

Not only this but trans activist groups have been continuously lobbying for the removal of the sex exceptions within the Equality Act 2010. They all believe that women should have no right to single sex services which don't also include male people who say they identify as women. As for our " feminist " First Minister, it is her government's policies which put male sex offenders in Scottish female prisons, including those who beat up men in male prisons, refund women's domestic violence shelters because they won't admit clients who are male, removed same sex rape counselling and promoted hospital policies which tell female patients who object to men in female only wards that they are bigots.

Abccde · 26/11/2022 13:06

I'm not sure i have ever understood the difference between a man who wants to harm woman and a transwoman who wants to harm woman.

They are both male and they are both as likely to be violent to females because of their sex.

Now the vast majority of trans woman and men are not violent and would do them no harm, but self id puts woman at risk from both - those who genuinely believe themselves to be woman and those who 'pretend'.

FOJN · 26/11/2022 13:17

GRC changes nothing on current access to gender based segregation.

Women are trying to preserve single sex spaces and prevent them becoming single gender which would make them mixed sex.

JanieAllen · 26/11/2022 16:27

ZT is not a feminist organisation www.zerotolerance.org.uk/vaw-position-statements/**

Perhaps you should read this Mishy:
forwomen.scot/23/11/2022/sex-whats-it-all-about/

The Scottish Govt are in court arguing that a GRC does indeed carry special rights and that if a biological male possesses a GRC he is entitled to the full protection and rights of the characteristic "woman" including access to woman-only spaces.

Are you going to tell the Govt they are wrong?

ArabellaScott · 26/11/2022 20:01

Excellent article.

Blister · 26/11/2022 20:09

Hmm it changes nothing. Whelp, let's not do it then!
