I have a lesbian friend who works part-time for a local youth group. When she joined several years ago gender ideology wasn't a thing. Now she's the only GC person at work and is very quietly offering troubled young people an alternative take on the whole 'it's great to be trans' message they get from all the other workers. She's currently working with a young woman who presents androgynously and whom she suspects is lesbian. The girl has said that her family are homophobic. She is currently defining herself as NB but in conversations with my friend seems to think that transitioning is her only available option. My friend is trying to support her but is aware that colleagues are pushing the transition route to happiness. Only last week one of the other workers (a heterosexual white male) asked the young woman why she wouldn't want to be trans — the implication being that she's transphobic.
My friend has been casting around looking for a youth group that isn't in thrall to gender ideology to refer this young woman to, but can't find one. Does anyone know of any youth groups anywhere that support LGB young people in their sexuality, rather than transing them? She'd like to make contact with other GC youth workers for her own mental health if nothing more.
