So women are getting injured more, and worse, because kit isn't designed for the female body.

I'm so sick of this casual structural sexism. Kit manufacturers - fix it. And do the research required, too.

As popularity increases I'm sure this will happen, in more sports than just football. Once the larger companies are convinced a viable market is there, they will invest in the research and design costs - ultimately it will be about about profit, not fighting sexism. I'm pretty sure these companies would make a boot specifically designed for a cat if they thought there was money to be made form it.
