I am gobsmacked at the speed of the verdict. (Closing arguments took place this morning, I believe). The evidence must have been overwhelming.

Background here:

www.karadansky.com/state-v-dana-rivers-updates

Nothing can bring Patricia, Charlotte, and Benny back, but I hope that this verdict gives some solace to their surviving family and friends.

I need to turn in for the night, but wanted to share the news a.s.a.p. It's been a long wait for justice in this case.

I just hope that now that Rivers has been convicted of murdering women, Rivers is no longer incarcerated with women prisoners who cannot escape Rivers. It's California, though, so I don't have much hope...

But we don’t know if he is still in with women in prison or if he will be found guilty due to insanity. Either way, two lesbians and their son dead. It has taken way too long to get this case tried. And what is being reported in the media?

ArabellaScott · 16/11/2022 08:16

Oh, after so long. My thoughts with the family and friends of the victims.

ArabellaScott · 16/11/2022 08:17

Thanks, Grinitch, for letting us know.

Clymene · 16/11/2022 08:27

I'm so pleased about this. Finally justice has been done.

Rest in peace Patricia Wright, Charlotte Reed, and Benny Diambu-Wright

I still can't get over how this story is brushed aside by the media in our "if it bleeds it leads" culture. Just imagine if some gender critical woman had killed a trans woman, even in self defense, the TRAs would have been waving her name in our face for years to show how dangerous women are.

But after so long, I am glad they didn't waste time passing the verdict. If they put him in a women's prison, I hope they at least admit it.

LaughingPriest · 16/11/2022 12:00

Wow. Indeed, it's kind of odd that this isn't big news. It's been going on for AGES. Even Rivers' wikipedia page hasn't been updated with the verdict.

We have ‘days if remembrance’ here for no national victims, and South American victims (who are more likely to have been victims of violence against sex workers).

But this - no you won’t hear a mutter.

Unless someone mispronouns or dead names the murderer of course.

Ketzele · 16/11/2022 12:17

May their memories be for a blessing.

keeptalkinghappytalk · 17/11/2022 07:54

media blackout on this ... really frightening as at some very high level a decision was made to hide the whole thing from oublic view. When i checked this morning, no US media sources aside from social media had reported this triple murder by a trans activist.

'Ronson fails to even mention that Michfest ended—properly ended—when two lesbians and their adopted son were murdered by one of the Camp Trans protestors.'

GrinitchSpinach · 17/11/2022 10:18

Kara Dansky was in court at the end of the trial. She has a good write-up on her substack, but I’m having trouble linking the piece directly.

This is the best coverage I've seen. I've been to Michfest twice (first in 1979) and can't get over the accusations of bigotryfor not wanting to stand naked next to an intact male in the OUTDOOR communal showers. It was a wonderful experience that centered women and sisterhood, so of course it was attacked.

Just posting this link to a report of the trial which I admit I haven't read in full as it is so barbaric and troubling reduxx.info/prominent-trans-activist-found-guilty-for-2016-triple-homicide-of-california-family/

It should never have happened, and it should never have taken this long for some sort of justice to be done.

But also on a side note I wasn't aware of reduxx "for feminist news and opinion" and for anyone else like me worth checking out.

ArabellaScott · 17/11/2022 16:26

Reduxx is a fantastic resource. They also have a Scottish correspondent.

EpicChaos · 17/11/2022 17:11

Too much to hope that Law & Crime, or Court TV, covered this case then?!

Yeah, thought so! It was a stupid question! A very stupid question! sigh

Actually this is not true. Michfest alumni have said the two lesbians did not attend Michfest, not one single lesbian who went every year or worked the fest had ever seen them there. But Rivers has a history of generally hating lesbians by being at Camp Trans, protesting the fact that lesbians wanted to have music and sisterhood on PRIVATE land bought by Lisa Vogel in 1976... My first year there was 1979 and Camp Trans didn't exist then. Anyways once these men ramped up their protesting and bowling their demands to be let in (at least by the 90's), they would gain access at night, cut electrical wires and draw dick pictures wherever they could find a surface ... and they started getting support .. From effing everyone. Music performers were threatened with boycotts if they played, even the Indigo Girls accused Michfest of being a hateful gathering. Lisa tried her best to placate the transactivists but realized they would never be satisfied until these men were standing in the outdoor communal showers along with the women who came to be left alone by men -- for one weekend per year. And she worried about the safety of the women. It became a losing battle, every gay organization vilified her by name, and eventually Lisa shut it down after a 40 year run. THIS is why MichFest ended.
The murders are only indirectly related to Michfest because Rivers hated lesbians who would not bow to his demands (Reed apparently had dropped out of the biker group Rivers was in). Women-haters gonna hate.

Not covered by "lawtube" or any of the true crime channels either.

ArabellaScott · 19/11/2022 18:25

MissingLesbianSpaces - thanks for the clarification, it's an appalling story. It's astonishing that people would support males breaking into a female space like they did. Astonishing.

WindyHedges · 19/11/2022 18:32

I hope they put him in gaol and throw away the key. The whole wrecking of Mitchfest and the debacle of Camp Trans should have been a warning to us all …

No, apparently not, I've checked the channels of most of them and the ones I didn't check, I would be reticent to listen to/watch anyway.

Also, nothing more seems to have been seen or heard on the Chris Chan case!

Arbella, I had to google this, here is a list of those who said lesbians had no right to gather on privately owned land (most of us were topless) without the male gaze:
From 1991, the festival excluded trans women, adopting a "womyn-born womyn" policy,[6] which drew increasing criticism. The festival was picketed by Camp Trans starting in the 1990's for its exclusionary policy. LGBT advocacy group Equality Michigan boycotted the event in 2014.[7] Michfest drew criticism from the Human Rights Campaign,[8] GLAAD,[9] the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and the National LGBTQ Task Force, among others. The festival held its final event in August 2015

Rivers ruled sane at the time of the murders:

Delphinium20 · 05/01/2023 19:53

I'll take that as saying misogynists are not by definition insane, but they are indeed responsible for their actions and society should be protected from them. Let's just hope society protects women in prison from them as well.
