The UN article about intersectional feminism that she links to does not support her argument at all, although it includes a couple of quotes from LGBTQ+ activists which I guess she thinks makes it do so.
The main thrust of the article as I read it is that different communities should act in solidarity with each other as diverse groups, ie not be forced to join together…
“Looking through an intersectional feminist lens, we see how different communities are battling various, interconnected issues, all at once. Standing in solidarity with one another, questioning power structures, and speaking out against the root causes of inequalities are critical actions for building a future that leaves no one behind.”
And later on “…black women were part of the feminist movement, the black movement, and other progressive movements. “We don’t want others to speak for black feminists—neither white feminists nor black men”
With this argument extended then this article argues that (male) non-binaries should not want women to speak for them and vice versa. But instead to stand in solidarity, which I am all for.
More worrying is that the Cosmopolitan article contains an argument which defines “non-binary” to give men even more access to women’s groups…
“Most demigirls are AFAB (assigned female at birth), and while their gender identity may lean more toward female, they can also identify as masculine and non-binary. As for demigirls assigned male at birth (AMAB), they may feel a strong connection to being a woman, but not enough to warrant identifying as such or being transgender.”
It’s such a load of utter BS that it would be funny if it wasn’t so serious. I can’t find words to express my disbelief that people in high positions in politics can be such idiots. No robustness of argument. Scant proof of ability to read, comprehend and apply written arguments. Linking to a Cosmopolitan article to help define new identities?! WTAF!?! Where is the critical thinking? And yet the confidence / stupidity to go public with her arguments. And this is politics today. Yikes! We need to keep pushing back.
