It doesn't make sense. A role is incapable of identifying as anything. It is not sentient.

So that is Isaac whatshiname name as Margot in Legally Blonde then.

Comefromaway · 15/11/2022 14:30

In-coming Izzard......

I wonder if 'May' in & Juliet is in that category too.

miri1985 · 15/11/2022 15:30

What I find interesting is that they've only included categories for best male identifying role and best female identifying role and the same categories in supporting.

Surely if you wanted to be really progressive you would have non-binary and the other infinite number of genders. So someone in a non-binary role either couldn't be nominated or they would have to claim that role as male/female identifying.

Makes much more sense to do it based on the sex of the performer rather than the gender of the role they're playing

Comefromaway · 15/11/2022 15:36

That is why I wondered about May as May is a non binary character. Margot is not a non binary character but was played by a non binary actor as was the fish in Bedknobs and Broomsticks (no idea if the character was meant to be male or female)

Bedknobs and Broomsticks was a strange production. When I went to see it, they pulled out a huge stripy flag during one of the musical numbers. I think it was the bisexual pride flag? Just odd.
