Any kind of dress code would be subject to discrimination claims. So teachers can wear what they like at this school. How are there not safeguarding issues here?

It's about escalating behaviour of someone when they've been told they are untouchable. A kind of "look how far I can push this and there is nothing you can do to stop me". Then putting that into a feedback loop with a fetish.

This definitely happens and it seems to be happening here, but I don’t think it’s what most people are getting at when they say this guy is a troll. There’s even a made up backstory about it being a dispute with HR or whatever!

These idiot boards need to realise that there are always going to be some who will push until they find a boundary, and that due to your responsibility to the general public and in this case children, you are sooner or later going to have to find your backbone and say the word 'no'. If this sort of thing happened in a UK school parents would move their kids, and that has a big impact on the school budget and in an extreme situation could result in the school closing. Let's hope it's the same in Canada.

I wonder how far they'd let someone go? Coming into school in BDSM gear? According to Keeping Children Safe in Education exposing kids to inappropriate sexualised images is child abuse. Personally I think what's already happening here veers pretty close to that. The leadership of this school seems to not give a fuck at all about the best interests and wellbeing of the children in the school. I hope the parents act.

You can't see the difference? Clearly schools can have a dress code that bans jeans but that's not the point...what is considered normal attire seems quite unfair. And Canada has very similar cultural norms as the US, so the comparison is apt.

I thought I'd wear my patience to its utter limit and watch the school board meeting:

The HR Superintendent presented a highly skewed version of what the legal implications would be of applying any standards, which would have an impact on the teacher in question. There was no balancing of rights against the needs of children being educated in a safe environment, no discussion of safeguarding. His version was on the basis that there was one set of needs of an individual that have to be centred to the exclusion of all else. I think what he was up to was to destroy any legal defences the school or the school board might have, in case anyone decided to apply common sense and tell the teacher in question that they need to stop parading their fetish in front of children. If this was done, the teacher would take this video to a lawyer who would rub their hands in glee at being provided with a gift of such enormous legal leverage.

The Superintendent also contradicted himself several times.

He said it wouldn't and couldn't be a disciplinary issue to have a dress code, but that one absolutely could tell a staff member they were not allowed to wear a shirt because it had a racist slogan.

He seemed to suggest that they absolutely could not stop Lemieux from wearing giant prosthetic breasts under dress code laws, but they could tell Lemieux that Lemieux was not allowed to wear them. Somehow.

Honestly, I felt so queasy watching that. What's the word for when people spend huge amounts of time justifying the unspeakable? Fiddling around with fucking byelaws and regulatory waffle when everyone can see a grown adult male wearing fetish gear TO TEACH CHILDREN FFS.

It sounds just as plausible to me. As far as I understood the information came from a student or parent at the school. Which may not be true but if it is, sheds an interesting light on it all.
