Transgender Day of Remembrance

Employer is hosting a vigil to mark the above to honour those "who have lost their lives, live with abuse and discrimination or simply have to hide who they really are simply because they are trans."

Didn't think we were that far gone, not much take up on email pronouns etc...

I’d be asking the employer to have as many ‘remembrance days’ as you can find shoe horned into the work calendar and complain loudly if they object - it’s discriminatory to accede to one (bonkers) ideology and ignore everyone else’s ‘trauma’

And definitely do days for (the generally overlooked) male suicide and women murdered through DV.

Christ a rainbow poppy is coming isn't it.

Totally.

International Men's Day is 19th November. It is a good time (and i do it on twitter) to remind people that the leading cause of death in men between 18 and 35 is suicide (not sure if that is still true, tbh) - so i and a bunch of my friends tweet resources about men's mental health etc

and then you can have 8th March for women, and maybe 8th May for freedom from Nazis and so on and so on

ReunitedThorns · 10/11/2022 13:46

A prominent trans youtube (Rose of Dawn), who isn't popular with TRAs did a video questioning how many LGBT+ holidays are needed, and there's another video with a rainbow poppy!

StillWeRise · 10/11/2022 13:51

it looks to me as if the person promoting this is well aware of the (thankfully) low rates of trans people being killed in this country, hence why they have widened the net to include 'having to hide who they truly are'
I would be asking the organiser for a list of names that could be read aloud or similar.

KittenKong · 10/11/2022 14:06

Say that you will remain silent for one whole year for each and every victim of tranicide in the U.K. over the past year. Ask for names.

Then ask if they will do the same for the women and child victims of DV.

RoyalCorgi · 10/11/2022 14:14

This is nuts. I think you're entitled to ask, if you're commemorating victimised groups, whether you could have a vigil for people killed or harmed as a result of antisemitism, or racism, or homophobia or, for that matter, misogyny. Why pick trans of all things?

RambamThankyouMam · 10/11/2022 14:17

MichaelFabricantWig · 10/11/2022 12:44

How does it vary from “Transgender day of visibility”?

For an oppressed and marginalised group they don’t half seem to have quite a lot of commemorative events.

Precisely.

I feel like I've never been more aware of any minority group in my life.

TinselAngel · 10/11/2022 14:34

Of all the things that disgust me about genderism, LARPing the need for a Remembrance Day, is I think the thing that disgusts me the most. Truly there is nothing that cannot be appropriated.

Given statistically there is no need for this event, ask yourself what else might motivate it and what sort of excitement some males might feel from pretending to be more oppressed than they are.

ReunitedThorns · 10/11/2022 14:58

Most of the statistics come from the number of transsexual prostitutes murdered in Brazil, and I think the murder rate is the same other prostitutes.

Christ a rainbow poppy is coming isn't it.

Oh lordy lord

KittenKong · 10/11/2022 17:13

Wasn’t there one last year? I’m sure I saw one last year.

KittiesInsane · 10/11/2022 17:15

I’m not going to mock. A young transman near us died by suicide not that long ago. This was post transition, and in a very pro-trans environment. Sometimes all the acceptance in the world isn’t enough; or maybe isn’t even helpful.

KittenKong · 10/11/2022 17:27

Or it is not the answer to their life issues that they were told it was.

KittiesInsane · 10/11/2022 17:30

Well, quite.

Transwoman Amy Griffith's was murdered in England in 2019. It was widely reported in national and local media. Possibly less widely reported was the judge's statement that there was no suggestion that the murder was aggravated by hostility towards the deceased because of her transgender identity.

Thé murderer was on day release from Broadmoor ( extraordinary in itself).he had previously murdered ‘another’ woman , and stabbed a third in the neck, although not fatally.

It seems he liked assaulting women, so at least he wasn’t discriminating against trans women.

MangyInseam · 10/11/2022 17:34

Why the heck should anyone's employer have a vigil about anything? That sounds like something said employer should be doing in his or her private life.

KittenKong · 10/11/2022 17:44

Last time I was involved in a work vigil it was for the Paris terrorist attacks. The boss called us together and we had a minutes silence. He said ‘terrorists will not win’ then we went back to work.

BedTaker · 10/11/2022 18:26

I find a lot of the language around Trans Day of Remembrance quite weird given that not a single trans person has been murdered in the UK since the last TDOR. I have seen rhetoric about 'mourning our dead' and 'the fallen' etc.

And appropriating the plight of transgender sex workers in South America, where the murder rate is horrifically high amongst many demographics, and centering yourself in that, is also pretty grim.

Tbf, it's not been organised by my employer per se, just accepted and advertised by them. It seems to have been arranged by a TW member of the LGBT+++ society.

readingbiscuitfactory.co.uk/whats-on/transgender-day-of-remembrance-vigil this is happening in Reading, with the mayor (labour candidate for Reading West constituency 🙄) joining in of the wringing of hands and lighting of candles. It happens every year where they watch a PowerPoint of pictures of male prostitutes in South America... It's so pointless and full of propaganda.

StillWeRise · 10/11/2022 19:29

surely an opportunity to analyse male violence and the dangers of being a prostitute? after all someone is killing these men wouldn't it make sense to think about who and why if they are so concerned about the victims?
