This might well have been posted somewhere already, but I just came across it today - Scottish survey asking for things that are barriers to women and girls participating in sport, and suggestions of ways to overcome some of the issues.
There have been lots of threads on MN about what puts girls and women off sport, from school age onwards, from choice of activities, clothes, pressure to look a certain way, reactions of boys/men in the class or spectating, harrassment/comments/groping in pools, issues of gender/changing rooms/competition, so this might be a good chance to put forward some of those thoughts and suggestions.
