It's not like Maugham to stick his nose in where it doesn't belong. 🤨

What a supercilious arse he is?

GLP have said they will try to appeal?

for fuck’s sake. Is there any chance they’ll both lose and be denied leave to appeal? It is difficult not to suspect their primary motive is to harass LGB Alliance via the courts and make sure all their resources are bound up in fighting lawsuits instead of working towards their charitable aims.

It's just school bully tactics.

'I'll see you after school'.

AlisonDonut · 03/07/2023 11:12

Or Stonewall who originally goaded them into it.

Or Stonewall who originally goaded them into it.

Indeed.

AutumnCrow · 03/07/2023 11:15

Some of the actions of some of the people involved in all this are strongly suggesting 'unhinged' and 'addicted to confrontation' to me.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 03/07/2023 11:16

It's certainly not normal behaviour.

AlisonDonut · 03/07/2023 11:21

Ameanstreakamilewide · 03/07/2023 11:12

Indeed.

I'm wondering if the plan is to learn from the Mermaids decision and then Stonewall will launch a different action bearing in mind what the judge will say about Mermaids' approach.

AutumnCrow · 03/07/2023 11:26

It's a woeful situation where bad actors - unhinged people - are able to use the courts to harass their victims as part of grandiose and unhealthy LARPing.

foodfiend · 03/07/2023 11:36

If the Charity Commission finds that Mermaids have standing to challenge LGBA because LGBA campaigns against what Mermaids stands for, then it surely opens the door for all kinds of legal challenges. Right to Life UK calling for BPAS to have its charitable status revoked? (And vice versa?)

It would probably be very lucrative for GLP to launch crowdfunders for legal challenges to the charitable status of campaigns which are not fashionable with their audience.

Pyjamagame · 03/07/2023 11:42

So, when can the judgement be expected? Is it today or later in the week? I haven't kept up with latest developements.

VeruccaSalty · 03/07/2023 11:47

10am on Thurs according to Barbara Rich

Ameanstreakamilewide · 03/07/2023 12:19

I love Barbara Rich. Her analysis of the case was excellent.

Pyjamagame · 03/07/2023 13:16

VeruccaSalty thank you!

miri1985 · 03/07/2023 13:24

Given what came out about Mermaids during the case, you'd wonder what will come out during the appeal

nauticant · 03/07/2023 17:41

A typical appeal will be a reconsideration of the evidence previously submitted so they don't tend to have dramatic new information or events.
