Apologies if this from today's sporting section of the DT has been reported, but I can't see it.
www.telegraph.co.uk/rowing/2022/10/28/how-british-rowing-fell-victim-radical-trans-ideology/

A former US rower (Dr Mary O'Connor) has accused British Rowing of a "failure of leadership" and a "lack of integrity" over its decision to allow trans rowers to compete with women. She said it was indefensible and ridiculous.

Dr O'Connor has a history of standing up for women in sport. In 1976 she was one of 19 female rowers who protested against Yale Univesity's refusal to offer separate changing facilities for women by stripping naked in a college office to make their point. Yale caved in.

"This policy in rowing needs to be changed. It's not a political issue or a generational issue. It's a fairness issue. Are we going to respect and value females? It's madness. There is no ambiguity about the science. It's not possible, in the sporting realm for trans athletes to compete fairly against biological females. That's all there is to it.

"This situation is unfair and it's going to destroy women's sports. So, we're not going to stop making noise. We're just getting started."

Wow - that's such a good article. Thanks flyingbuttress43.
Loved this comment:

Seriously, how did we, as a fundamentally reasonable, educated society, allow a narcissistic and integrity-deficient micro minority to dictate to us that 2+2=5

nilsmousehammer · 28/10/2022 16:20

It is an extremely good question.

The DT is mounting a very consistant campaign on trans matters. Something in there every day. I don't like their politics in general or some of the writers but they are like a dog with a bone on this topic.

Three articles yesterday including this one about a talk to students at Cambridge.

Except… they’re bound by IPSO guidelines aren’t they? So in Allison Pearson’s article about being on Question Time with Eddie Izzard, the pronoun use was odd to say the least. Jarring use of “they” where nobody would do so in normal day to day speech. Time for the Telegraph to stick its head above the parapet and actually test the IPSO guidelines by using accurate pronouns.

Mosik · 28/10/2022 17:29

@MidsomerMurmurs I noticed that, it was still a great piece even though I have to grit my teeth to read anything by AP.

You're right Midsomer. I'm hoping that one of the news outlets will eventually challenge this. I thought that the Jordan Gray flashing incident took them close but I suspect it will be one of the numerous sex offenders where some poor woman or child victim is bullied by the bench book into committing perjury by calling their attacker a woman. That's when this will be challenged.

I read this article earlier today. It really is excellent.

Obviously agree re AP (she used to be really refreshing in, I can’t remember, the late 90s? Writing for the Independent when it was still an actual newspaper).

Today’s Times article by Janice Turner uses accurate pronouns (and explains why): www.thetimes.co.uk/article/8d12b9de-56fa-11ed-a03e-f7ac672386f7?shareToken=c066df7bda443d1134b7d63217618a15

Because what the event revealed was the almost magical power of free, open debate. Nearly all animals would settle disagreements by force. But we have invented words, and by face-to-face verbal discussion we can come to agreement, or at least mutual recognition. Words are not a form of violence. They are an alternative to violence. Without that distinction we are lost."

Powerful words by Arif Ahmed, in that article you linked to Mosik.
