"Bloomsbury said sales of the wizarding stories had jumped 35pc in the first half of the year – a quarter of a century since Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was first released."

How satisfying.

How does it keep selling? Doesn't everyone already own a copy?

25 years is towards the shorter end of the usual age gap between generations. I suspect over the next 10 years or so it will stay high, as parents who read the books as children buy them for their own children.

I don't and have never even picked a copy of one of the books up !

I'm jealous. I would love to be able to pick the books up and have no idea of the magic that was waiting on the pages.

Oh to be able to create a spell that would allow me to experience the magic of reading them again for the first time. Halloween Grin

The original Harry Potter books have just been put into Kindle Unlimited too, which will have given them a huge visibility boost on Amazon. When I was browsing the other day she held 8 out of the top 10 spots on their fiction chart - the latest Strike novel is in 2nd place and Richard Osman's novels at 1 and 10, every other book was Harry Potter.

How fantastic!

Dorisbonson · 26/10/2022 20:43

My son has been demolishing the books over the past few weeks.I am delighted he has found something he wants to read. There will always be new buyers for books like these.

PuttingDownRoots · 26/10/2022 20:48

I thought they had been on KU for ages... I've borrowed them a few times.

DD is getting the Jim Kay versions of Goblet of Fire and Order of Phoenix for Christmas. As well as loads of other stuff

The HP section of Hamleys was very busy today.

Theluggage15 · 26/10/2022 21:01

I only bought the Troubled Blood Galbraith book as a small act of support when she was getting all the nonsense about being offensive to trans in the story. So glad I did as I really enjoyed it and have now bought all the other books in the series. Thanks JKR!

3rd

The first 5 books have been done in the illustrated versions. I've just got the 5th to add to my collection and will purchase the remaining 2 once they are done (usually 1 a year)

The illustrated Order of the Phoenix was just released. Is there another illustrated range I don't know about?

Sorry - it is indeed The Order of the Phoenix!

Ordered four oversized hoodies from dunelm for my kids and niblings... wondering whether to assign the houses or let them choose at random. Probably the former as my youngest is definitely a Slytherin Grin

I had copies from when the Harry Potter books originally became popular, but they didn’t survive subsequent house moves.

I bought another set last year for DC1 when they showed an interest in the books.

Also, those of who shared one set with siblings as children now have our own homes and bookcases. Grin

Our original well-loved set has stayed at our DPs, so that's three new sets bought.

Reminds me of the gemini (doubling) charm on the vault in Gringotts - each copy gives rise to multiple new buyers.

Pinkbonbon · 27/10/2022 01:18

On a side note, Tom felton released 'beyond the wand' recently too (draco malfoy).

I love him even more because despite being ambushed at pretty much every opportunity the media gets, he refuses to throw jk under the bus :)

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 27/10/2022 01:59

Remember that idiot who said all JKR's readers had abandoned her and she made that "reading my royalty cheques" response?

It's even better now. HA.

35% increase in sales is massive!!! And compared to a 5% increase the year before? Is it too much to hope that some of it's down to the "boycott?" I doubt all that many people knew about it, but most people who know about TRAs don't like them...

InflagranteDelicto · 27/10/2022 07:01

Dd2 is a Tom Felton fan so thanks for the tip about the book, bought the hardback for her for Christmas. He's shown so much strength of character.

Me too!

PuttingDownRoots · 27/10/2022 07:28

This year my family have bought...

Ink Black Heart
A whole set of HP books as DD1 wanted her own
2 illustrated books
DVD box set
Oversized blanket hoodie from Dunelm x3
HP stationary
HP clothing from M&S
HP build a bears
HP lego
HP toiletries
HP sweets
Hedwig (model one)
School trip to HP studios

I don't think JK or her charity will be struggling any time soon.
