Boots menopause range

I opened an email from Boots this morning promoting their new No 7 menopause range. Being a woman of a ‘certain age’ I was interested and read it. To be confronted with ‘all people who menstruate will be affected by the menopause at some point in their lives’. My trust in Boots has been seriously shaken by the use of this horrible phrase. Has ‘women’ now become a taboo word except when it includes men who think they are women? 🙄

I agree.

Threelittlelambs · 23/10/2022 11:45

What’s the packaging like? Off to have a look!

Smilelesstalkmore · 23/10/2022 11:47

Yes, they are happy to cash in on our lived experience, but they don't have the decency to actually name us.

I am Hmm at all the menopause marketing crao coming out now, Primark have a 'menopause clothing range' now as well. Just a way to make more money off women, ooops, I mean 'people who menstruate'.

ApocalipstickNow · 23/10/2022 11:57

What is menopause clothing?

does it have lots of pockets for my menopace and oil of evening primrose tablets?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/10/2022 11:59

Loose, baggy, cool and easily removed during a hot flush?

ApocalipstickNow · 23/10/2022 12:01

Isn’t that just lots of clothes? a lot of Primarknstuff is thin because they skimp on material.

TrainedByCats · 23/10/2022 12:12

All these companies refusing to name women unless they are male is really cutting down on my spending Hmm it’s annoying now I’ve reached that point in my life (menopause) where I don’t have any worries financially that I have very few shops/brands that I want to spend money on

Smilelesstalkmore · 23/10/2022 12:15

The packaging is, of course, a very womanly shade of pinky mauve.

In fairness, on this page they have used 'women' throughout.

Cailleach1 · 23/10/2022 12:23

A list of shops who do engage in a lack of respect for women would be very useful. Rather like the lists for products which are not tested on animals.

Cailleach1 · 23/10/2022 12:23

And manufacturers.

It would be used as a hitlist by TRAs.

Noshowlomo · 23/10/2022 12:31

They mention women specifically here though

CircleofWillis · 23/10/2022 15:55

Perhaps they are lulling TRAs into a false sense of security with their signposting. Then once the target audience has clicked on the page they can throw off the compelled speech and freely splatter the whole place with 'womans' and 'womens'.

It is not as if the pronouns crew have any interest in menopausal women unless they are hanging us for varying degrees of 'Terfiness'.

Threelittlelambs · 23/10/2022 17:51

I’ve just read a post about ‘people’ have been wearing bras all wrong - you can’t make it up! Who’s the majority here?

EdgeOfACoin · 23/10/2022 20:29

A menopause clothing range?

I have to be honest, I really, really don't think this focus on the menopause is going to do women any favours in the long run.

Perhaps Liz Truss was a terrible PM because she was peri-menopausal. Perhaps Theresa May wasn't able to cope with the leadership because she was menopausal. Ooh, better not promote that woman. She's in her fifties and she might find the new job all a bit much, what with the menopause and all.

WarriorN · 23/10/2022 20:36

What a waste of money.

The hands down best moisturiser (more for night!) is Vaseline. (Or nipple cream, unless allergic to wool.)

Mlms are jumping on the meno bandwagon.

Shortpoet · 23/10/2022 20:42

I know! Who wants nylon nightwear at the best of times?

And thin real cotton nighties nowhere to be found at Primark.

YourTruthorMine · 23/10/2022 20:46

I have been aware for sometime that the Menopause was the next thing to be monetized, As soon as Davina and co started spouting off about it, I realised they were being paid. Little more than snake oil salesman, exploiting women

Pixiedust1234 · 23/10/2022 20:57

How strange. Page is not found Confused

FannyCann · 23/10/2022 21:54

Thought you might be interested in the contribution of The Lancet this week.
Lots of "people" suffering menopause and to cap it all we are told that the "socially dominant menopause group in the U.K." are...wait for it..."cisgender, heterosexual middle aged white women".

I'd love to hear what relevance one's gender (if one has one), sexuality or colour have to do with the menopause. But mostly I think the point of the article is to make sure that young people women going through menopause due to transitioning and messing with their hormones get included in menopause discussions. Personally I think it's appalling that young women are going through a premature menopause as a result of this ideology. Whatever care they need I am sure it differs to the care that most middle aged women going through a natural age related menopause need.

Sorry, I tried to archive the full article from my log in but it seems not to have worked. I can screenshot the whole thing if anyone wants to see it in all its glory.

Pixiedust1234 · 23/10/2022 22:24

Thank you. Link works but apparently everything is sold out 😮

(was looking to see if their sizing was bigger for those menopausal women who can't lose the weight)

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/10/2022 00:26

I haven't forgiven Boots for the International Women's Day feature which had a female: male paticipant ratio of 4:1 (IIRC). So this surprises me not.
