Bad faith posts about androgynous models

Three of these recently. Used to see a lot of this on Twitter, people posting androgynous model pics and then saying "this is a man", cue outrage when it was a woman.

I'd suggest they need reported and not engaged with from the "is it or isn't it?" stance.

It's a deliberate misdirect and obviously being shared on Twitter.

Agreed

"Probably time for Saturday evening bump before the energy vampires suck the life out of women on here."

I remember this was on a lovely old Bunbury post in the early days when we still had one and it always stuck with me.

For a while there used to be posts on Twitter with an androgynous person in the picture and a statement like "womens sports are dead!" And then predictably a bunch of people would comment in outrage - and then the photo would be revealed to be a woman. Interesting it's moved to here - usually with some sort of "I'll never shop there again" kind of statement.

Photos are deceptive.

Quite right.

midgetastic · 23/10/2022 09:21

They are also cropping up in AIBU
Recent one - why am I always misgendered gave me bad vibes

dudsville · 23/10/2022 09:23

I saw the one titled women aren't allowed to model clothes anymore. I thought that was a huge leap to make, expecially give the the women who model are now inclusive now than ever before, and, as you say, posters were then "outraged" by this fake news.

WandaWomblesaurus · 23/10/2022 09:25

I wonder if people think we can't see the difference between a man dressed as a child sitting on a bed with an actual child and Annie Lennox in a suit.

Ot think that we only recognise women who dress like 50's housewives.

Baffling.

I saw that one too - didn't engage but checked out the photo. The photo was female, not hard to tell that in my opinion.

Trans extremists are desperate. The public narrative is not going their way with the explosion of social contagion among children, the Mermaids paedophile scandal, numerous court cases exposing sex offenders, detransitioners being heard and much more. Anything they can do to "discredit" those speaking out, they'll do and that includes posting goady threads on Mumsnet.

WandaWomblesaurus · 23/10/2022 09:29

There was a picture of Ezra Miller a while back where Ezra looked stunning - high cheekbones, beautiful makeup etc. Doesn't mean a person can change sex.

Tim Curry was very attractive as Frankenfurter. Doesn't mean he's a woman or that I'm a lesbian.

Gender bending was always something I grew up with - I'm assuming many of us did.

Tbh it is coming across as the final throes of a dying ideology. Flinging about as much shit as possible now the sunlight is pouring in.

👍🏻

SeptemberSon · 23/10/2022 09:36

Absolutely agree. I don't care if men model dresses, I don't care if Tom Daley is advertising make up. They are as much entitled to them as we are.

In the absence of credible arguments, try desperately to suggest those arguing for safeguarding and science are 'old' and 'uncool'.

SignOnTheWindow · 23/10/2022 09:47

Agree.

Anyway, I think we need to normalise men doing and wearing stereotypically 'feminine' things. Clothes and deeds maketh not the man; sex at birth maketh the man.

GlassDeli · 23/10/2022 09:48

I think the model in question may well have been Ben Allen.

Of course, people can wear whatever they like. But if a dress is advertised in the woman's clothing section, women are usually wanting to see what it looks like on a woman, not a man. They could always show it in the men's section if they want to use a male model.

Correction: we need to normalise again. It’s been done before.

It's a female model on the other thread. Someone linked to her.
Regardless it's photographs - which have angles and poses - especially high fashion where the angular and unusual are prized.

Spitting image of Ben Allen in fact.

Although... I agree that dresses could also be in the mens section of websites. There's certainly a market for dresses for men that are cut flatteringly to their bodies.
A few years ago one of my boyfriends used to wear beautiful long skirts with dragons on that were like long Thai silk kilts. They looked great with a tailored jacket.

The model on the most recent thread is a Swiss woman who is a model. Why are you restarting this nonsense again?

WandaWomblesaurus · 23/10/2022 09:57

@NotBadConsidering so true! It's already been done!

Men in the 70's with long hair had so much vitriol thrown at them!

WandaWomblesaurus · 23/10/2022 10:01

Something that my dd mentioned was how clothing was really being focused on as male or female at her school. So there's a real push to stereotype clothing. She also said as soon as she got her hair cut other children were asking her if she was a boy.
Where have they learned such regressive ideas?
