Mum takes 14 yr old to Poland for top surgery

It seems as though a market has developed for 'gender affirming' surgeries in Poland being offered at very low prices.
To make such life chaging decisions about your child's healthy body, paying for and enabling it I can't understand.

My mantra is follow the money and see who benefits. You are right. Wasn’t one hospital in the US lately outed as admitting that gender surgeries and treatments were one of their biggest moneyspinners. I think it was the Vanderbilt hospital.

WarriorN · 22/10/2022 08:52

@BordoisAgain is there any indication what part of the U.K. they're in?

ChocFrog · 22/10/2022 08:54

Please stop referring to it as ‘top surgery’, it’s breast amputation.

Poor kid. I wish the parents would get arrested but no one’s arrested the head of Mermaids for the operation she had done on her child so 🤷‍♀️

The history books are going to be scathing about this time of child sexualisation and mutilation.

In Matt Walshes documentary where he spoke to a trans man who he refers to as the only honest person he met, the figure was something like.1.3 million dollars per child once on the transition path. Thats how much is apparently generated. And I'm.assuming thats just when things go " smoothly " I'm.mot sure how much more it would bring in with the rest.

I always struggle to see how adults often refuse to pay for extended warranties etc and are always suspicious of any shop who wants to flog you some kind of insurance or protection or extras to bump up the sale profits. Adults immediately see they can get it cheaper elsewhere or its all about the money amd there are cheaper ways round. Like buying a phone outright and going fir a sim only deal etc

But there's no comprehension that with a major surgery like this you will also be paying the same dr for scar revisions, repairs, infection treatments, referral to physio therapists when scar tissue limits mobility. That when surgeons who do this are scattered far and wide without big selections available locally, basically meaning you have little choice but to return when things go wrong, that there's no incentive to get it right the first time. Drs make thousands out of these surgeries. Thousands fir surgeries where let's face it the outcomes are often awful and still they get to go ahead and make their money .

Yet those who stand against this, who make no money and infection lose jobs lose their platforms lose their speaking engagements and in fact incurr huge costs both personally and financially are still the bad guys.

How can it not be obvious.

Presumably, having done the deed, the parents will expect the NHS to pick up all the bills when there are problems in the aftermath. Then again, it’s also likely they haven’t considered the fact that there might be problems after such major surgery.

Only £1800 to permanently mutilate a little girls healthy body by amputating her breast buds
How is this not a crime?

littleroad · 22/10/2022 09:01

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz yes it is. For years we have been given training about looking for signs of girls at risk from FGM. This is no different.

nursingchair · 22/10/2022 09:02

(NC) I was recently made aware of a child who's mother was planning to take her abroad for a mastectomy. I believe ss were alerted. Don't know what happened thereafter. However they were 15, Scotland. Scotland has had school half terms in the last couple of weeks.

Absolutely no different.

This is just horrific.

This is where the law they're proposing is necessary. School needs to be able to on report and also the hospitals, gps etc.

WarriorN · 22/10/2022 09:05

Law/ safeguarding requirements - I'm unclear what they'll be.

I'd need to see this somewhere 'official' a 14 yr old surely doesn't have enough breast tissue to remove yet.

When I was 14 I was in a 34J bra! I got breasts at 11, as did lots of girls I knew.

WarriorN · 22/10/2022 09:06

Mastectomies are not like ear piercings. My grandmother had awful arm lymph swellings after her's. There can be life long complications.

ToadSmall · 22/10/2022 09:08

Including meals’

Thank fuck for that, because that would be my worry if I was getting my young teenager a mastectomy for cosmetic reasons.

Are meals included?

WarriorN · 22/10/2022 09:10

This has got me so wound up.

How the hell can a school turn a blind eye to this? There's no way they'd not find out somehow.

Girls do not choose to have imposed upon them the 'classic' form of FGM that safeguarding training looks out for. Warning signs are therefore far more subtle. This 'top surgery' form of FGM is, sadly, seen by the girls undergoing it as a wonderful thing that she has to keep secret because evil people will try to stop her. So much trickier to spot who will actually be operated upon and stop it from happening to her, when so many girls are caught in the grip of this ideology. Especially when so many adults are caught in its grip, too!

FrancescaContini · 22/10/2022 09:40

“Transition journey” - another horrifying euphemism. Sounds as if you’ll be skipping along a rose-strewn path towards a magical fairyland 😞

ZeldaFighter · 22/10/2022 09:51

It isn't that long ago that I was reading stories from adult women in their 20s and 30s who were refused sterilisation by doctors because they were too young, didn't understand the consequences, might change their mind, might meet someone else.....because they were adult women and who believes one of them????

I'm not sure it's for the best that young women and girls are now being so readily believed and supported in their desire for life-changing surgery.

WarriorN · 22/10/2022 08:52

They say they're in Scotland and on the GIDS waiting list in Glasgow

ChlorineChris · 22/10/2022 10:14

I know women who have had mastectomies for cancer who wear special wristbands to remind hcps not to do a blood pressure or take blood from that arm as the damage to the lymph glands means that any constriction can cause horrible.swelling and issues with drainage.sjrely that is also a risk for these young girls having this operation? Maybe worse as its both sides?

Quite apart from losing their actual breasts - incredibly complex organs that produce life saving milk, respond to temperature and to viral attacks to help protect babies, that can form a really important part of sexual arousal and stimulation..all gone. And how can we say teens understand the potential consequences?

CountZacular · 22/10/2022 10:17

I was really surprised that this would be legal in Poland. I just had a look at the thread and apparently they just need a formal diagnosis which, by the sounds of it wasn’t all that forth coming on the NHS.

I was interested in this particular post - what exactly are all these tests looking for?

Are you sure this is true? It’s a very Catholic country where even abortion is illegal as it’s against Gods will. I doubt they’re doing gender reassignment so easily.

Or... a country which tends not to care about womens rights, and (afaik) liable to homophobia.... compare with Iran?

FrancescaContini · 22/10/2022 10:28

@CountZacular That post - BRAIN SCAN? It’s a huge money-making exercise for these clinics.

Clymene · 22/10/2022 10:29

I would really not be surprised if this were true. Massively catholic countries like Malta and Poland are anti abortion and homophobic. Malta is massively on the trans train.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 22/10/2022 10:30

Reading more of her posts she says that she is Polish, but they live in the UK.
