HSE suspends funding to TENI for failure to produce accounts

The HSE confirmed to the Irish Independent that TENI’s funding would remain suspended until it received “signed audited accounts” from the non-profit.

It followed a meeting with TENI on Wednesday.

TENI failed to produce complete financial accounts by May 31, as is required by their grant aid agreement with the HSE.

This means TENI has missed the deadline for filing its annual accounts for the fourth year in a row.

TENI has received more than €1.3m from the HSE since 2017.

The amounts of (public) money that are being thrown at this are alarming, particularly where, as here, these groups are showing little sign of professionalism or competence.

This is becoming like a yearly ritual. Yet still the funding keeps being reinstated. Would any other organisation get this leeway?

How can they keep getting away with this and still be blaming it on the "financial irregularities" of 2018. Surely that must all have been accounted for by now or are they still trying to doctor numbers to make that seem less bad. If the financial mismanagement (I'm being very generous) was so bad that it would impact future accounts for years surely it would have to cease operating? This seems not to be solitary incident in this area...when I was looking at the sphe resources to fill in the ncca consultation, another organisation, Glen, is linked to...the links to it don't work because it ceased operating in 2017 due to investigation for financial irregularities. www.irishtimes.com/news/health/gay-and-lesbian-equality-network-to-cease-operations-1.3086744
That was in 2017 so TENI would have been well aware they needed to get a handle on their finances.

I was reading a very interesting thread on Reddit about this last night on the #ireland sub.

There was a lot of plain speaking and it was heartening to see.

Fucksake, Irish Charities seem to be a bit shit, don't they?
I've heard awful things about a children's charity, bullying staff more than financial issues...but still you'd expect better.
Presumably TENI just use the money for indoctrination, how in God's name can they account for that?
