A colourful collection of characters indeed.

It would be worth taking a look on LinkedIn at previous employees too.

I only read part of that and now I want to be sick.
MAP 1-11
FFS and supposedly I'm on the wrong side of history

Nik Pope describes working for Mermaids above, and their experience below. They presumably work the affirmation model with young people. Quite revealing.

As a person who found my own (wonderful) therapist through BACP, I am appalled both to read that account on their website and to learn that the author will soon be counselling young people.

They have such little self awareness or curiosity as to the aetiology of their own feelings or symptoms that I fear their own therapist has done a poor job. The casual suggestion of suicidal ideation cured by transition seems deeply inappropriate for a website perused by people often seeking help in desperate times.

It's worth watching some of the videos that the staff have made at different points. It starts to become obvious that they are defining the various identities etc as they go along - and that the ideas will change over time to fit their own confused narratives about themselves.
Problem is that they are not psychologists - they are making the rules of the game up as they go.

And so much of it is based on faulty thinking about gender stereotypes.

Has it been established yet as to who their secret safeguarding lead is?

And how anyone shared information or liaised with a safeguarding lead whose identity is a secret?

GeraniumKF · 20/10/2022 09:13

@nilsmousehammer

Krystyna Hebb, according to her LinkedIn profile, is the head of helpline services and the designated safeguarding lead. Archived page.

But presumably you mean the secret trustee marked “safeguarding”. As far as I’m aware, no further details about their trustees has come out since this all blew up.

Here’s an archived version of their staff and trustees page, from August so naturally it’s not up to date now.

Thank you, very interesting.

It crossed my mind to wonder if the secret, redacted trustee could be Susie Green’s good friend and former Mermaids employee Helen Islan (mimmymum).

As they say you know a tree by its fruits!

A fiver on Peter Tatchell

I hope all that information has been sent to the Charity Commission.
