Social Worker Tribunal

Tribunaltweets are reporting from a social worker's fitness to practice tribunal. They are not naming the social worker - just initials RM. I believe the case has been discussed here before but as they are not naming I won't find old threads.

Social Work England found against her for criticising mermaids and putting other gender critical posts on her Facebook. There were no complaints about her actual work. She is now having a fitness to practice hearing but SWE, a few days before the hearing, decided not to defend their decisions. It sounds like they are applying to withdraw allegations.
SWE's barrister is Robin White.

Twitter link says page doesn't exist.

There's a rogue L on the end of the Tribunal Tweets link. Try this:

Glad the allegations are withdrawn. Disgusting that this woman has been dragged through this. But presumably the issues will not be discussed so no one will be any the wiser. So glad I no longer have to work in this profession.

Igmum · 17/10/2022 10:37

If SWE have withdrawn the allegations, why is there a hearing? (IANAL so apologies if there is an obvious answer to this). Good luck RM and SP.

334bu · 17/10/2022 10:38

Thank you for new link.

Shortpoet · 17/10/2022 10:39

I found it hard to follow the tweets, but really feel for her. The stress and financial cost for her over the last couple of years must be huge and for SWE to announce at last minute they wouldn’t defend their case while on one hand must be a relief, but on the other must be infuriating.

TheClogLady · 17/10/2022 10:40

Fingers crossed for RM.

Feels a bit like stars have aligned re: timings for the hearing, now that Mermaids’ safeguarding has been exposed as non existent, don’t want to jinx anything though!

Shortpoet · 17/10/2022 10:40

Infuriating that she has been so badly let down I mean

ChlorineChris · 17/10/2022 10:41

This Robin White?

Ameanstreakamilewide · 17/10/2022 10:46

That's the one, Chlorine.

I'll say no more, lest it gets deleted.

TheClogLady · 17/10/2022 10:48

Yes.

This Robin Moira White.

becomingmoira.blogspot.com

I expect Robin will pop up on Mumsnet later to furiously deny having had any responsibility for the legendarily awful bundles at Allison Bailey’s hearing.

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 17/10/2022 10:48

Does having a Fitness to Practice case against you which is subsequently dropped affect your future employability and standing in the profession? Having the case dropped doesn't sound like a full vindication - can the Social Worker take any steps to make SWE go further in admitting how wrong they were?

Shortpoet · 17/10/2022 10:49

I believe the very same.

Certainly very fortunate in getting on some cases of high interest to GC feminists. Alison Bailey, Sarah vs the Rape crisis centre and now this one.

Could anyone with a legal background give insight into how cases are allocated? I know it is cab rank principal for criminal defendants, but I’m unsure how it works for tribunals etc.

I’d be interested in that. What is the legal standing now for the social worker?

Robin works for trans claimants as well as against GC ones:

Afaik you can request a specific barrister if you know of them. So they must build up a reputation in a general area.

SWE’s prejudice and incompetence have fucked up this poor woman’s life for 2 years and now they want to quietly drop it

I hope she sues the shit out of them. Or not. Whatever brings her peace. But I’d very much like to see them get their comeuppance

Cuck00soup · 17/10/2022 10:59

Watching with interest & wishing RM look. Glad that Sarah P is representing her.

JanieAllen · 17/10/2022 11:27

gosh just looked at her allotment it looks like she needs a lot more veg...

RoyalCorgi · 17/10/2022 11:36

Having looked at her allotment, it seems that because SWE has decided not to defend the case, the tribunal will only be two days rather than five, and it's not clear whether the court will allow SWE to discontinue the case or will insist on proceeding. Which is mad.

Also, the social worker is also taking SWE and her employer to employment tribunal in December. That should be worth watching. And gardening for.

IANAL either but I wonder if this case is complicated by the fact that RM initially accepted a "warning" from SWE that she now (in hindsight) believes was discriminatory. It may be that a hearing is the only way that this sanction can be removed from her record. And that SWE are not defending it because they know they are in the wrong.
