"Senior police officers who allow this [ misrepresenting hater crime laws ] to happen can expect to have to explain to me why they’re spending vital resources on politically correct campaigns."

HermioneWeasley · 16/10/2022 14:22

Excellent, though of course ridiculous it’s had to come to this

ChristinaXYZ · 16/10/2022 14:30

Ain't it just @HermioneWeasley and I notice the responses / quote tweets often misrepresent what she says as a focused attack on a particular group, which it is not (typical strawman argument). I am pretty sure Braverman won't want any identity politics focused on any group.

Ah yes, just hot on the heels of saying how her dream would be to have a Telegraph front page of refugees on a plane to Rwanda. The ultimate girlboss! I love her!!

Yes she also needs to sort out the illegals.

lady69 · 16/10/2022 16:10

even worse, Leicester police made it up using a stock photo. The hate victim never existed. The “crime” never happened. This is sinister stuff

I do assume that the police do real work and that they are busy. And that this guff is largely the result of social media comms "experts". People without a real job and with too much public breach.

However, we have seen the police "checking your thinking" etc and we know people have suffered consequences as a result of saying totally reasonable, mundane things.

Therefore it's good to see a senior politician (and in this case, they don't get much more senior!) saying enough is enough, do the job we pay you to do. I look forward to Leics explaining themselves to Braverman 🍿

Thank you for your sanity. Some of the threads on here cheering on these right-wing nutters make me so depressed

AffronttoBS · 16/10/2022 17:06

Chat boards like MN with strangers are not great for conveying sarcasm.

Is it now considered right wing to expect the police to do the job they're paid to do?

Well done Suella
Read the Leicestershire (thought) Police tweet in defence of the vile specimen that shoved his dick in.......well read it for yourselves if you haven't already 🤮

Not wishing to in anyway defend Leicester police''s distortion of the law. But the link between the vile specimen you state and the police''s tweet is a stock photo. The individual in the photo quite probably has nothing to do with either tweet.

Lovelyricepudding · 16/10/2022 18:05

I also saw a meme from CPS giving incorrect statistics saying there were 10,000 hate crimes last year. Tried to Google it but could only find this though the meme gave more detail:

hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2021-11-18/debates/DC7FFD74-ECB6-4DAD-BD87-308051B066B3/CPSProsecutionsHateCrime

"In the last year, the CPS prosecuted more than 10,000 such offences; in 79% of those cases that resulted in a conviction."

So there weren't 10,000 offences as 2,100 cases were found innocent. The meme also made it clear that not all of the 7,900 convictions got an uplift due to hate - so they weren't hate crimes either.

… you’d really think they would pick a less alarming looking stock photo, wouldn’t you? What happened to using cute “trans kids” for propaganda purposes?

I think the TRAs have gone so far off the deep end that their creepometers have broken. Like the marketing team who tried to use Dylan Mulvaney to sell makeup.

That is correct but whoever is in charge of their Twitter page needs to check the background of the photos they are using, in order to prevent their taskmasters looking like they support disgusting perverts!!

It used to be a real job. I was a marketing/PR professional working for the police. We used to be so careful, we knew media law, we stepped carefully and we were measured - because it was important. They don’t seem to care anymore.

ChocFrog · 16/10/2022 18:58

618,000 women are raped or sexually assaulted in the UK every year.

Less than 1% of rapes reported to the police result in the police bothering to bring a charge against the rapist.

And yet the police are literally advertising for biological men to report women who’ve hurt their feelings by eg using the man’s original name.

The police force needs a complete refresh as to what its actual purpose is. Clue: it is not to arrest women for hurting men’s feelings.

Suella Braverman, defending free speech, are you having a laugh or have you just not been paying attention?

musicalfrog · 16/10/2022 19:43

I have to admit, I cackled out loud when I saw this. 6 days it's been sat there. Now been removed quicksharp, funny that!

What a shame the tories are dire in every other respect.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 16/10/2022 20:04

Suella Braverman, defending free speech,

See the post above. That is what is happening.

Out of curiosity, are there examples of Braverman opposing free speech? I am not asking for a list of completely unrelated things she’s done or said that you don’t like. Or a list of dodgy friends or connections she has. I’m specifically asking for examples of her damaging free speech rights. (It may well have happened; I don’t know, @but I suspect you also don’t know.)

FWIW most TRAs have gone down the “free speech is bad actually”route to resolve their cognitive dissonance instead of “people I don’t like can’t be defending free speech.” You might want to update your thinking to the latest version in case you get cancelled!

ChristinaXYZ · 16/10/2022 20:21

And Yvette Cooper's response to Braverman shows which side of the women's rights debate she is on - she must know that women are being picked off by the police as part of a campaign to keep women quiet as waged by the more radical trans activists, using the police as their enforcers. Cooper MUST know what Braverman means here. But she has to virtue signal that what her priority is - ironic that she complains Braverman is just signaling to her core vote - that's exactly what Cooper is doing - heavy on the projection!

At least Braverman has done the hard thinking on this subject, she hasn't just dropped into the debate for fun and easy points - see her speech in August if you haven't already.
